This dude took photos of young kids and then photoshopped their heads on porn stars bodies. That seems rather niche for a kiddie porn weirdo. He also traded with others for "normal" gulp kiddie porn.

Quote:
Helker told investigators that he took pictures of children and then cropped them or zoomed the focus on the children’s buttocks, saying he “Photoshopped” the images. He also admitted to editing children’s heads onto adult porn.

He then admitted to taking innocent photos of children who attend All Saints Lutheran Church events and then editing the photos to create pornographic work.

He said the number of photos he created was “in the hundreds.”

Helker has been charged with six counts of child pornography possession. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and $10,000 in fines on three of the charges and up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines on the other three charges.

Maybe he thought photoshopping wouldn't be illegal? I think it is though:

Quote:
Images of child pornography are not protected under First Amendment rights, and are illegal contraband under federal law. Section 2256 of Title 18, United States Code, defines child pornography as any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor (someone under 18 years of age). Visual depictions include photographs, videos, digital or computer generated images indistinguishable from an actual minor, and images created, adapted, or modified, but appear to depict an identifiable, actual minor. Undeveloped film, undeveloped videotape, and electronically stored data that can be converted into a visual image of child pornography are also deemed illegal visual depictions under federal law.

Anyway, what I found interesting about this case was:

Quote:
The investigation began Oct. 21 after the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received CyberTip Reports from both Facebook and Instagram saying a user was suspected of possessing child porn.

The dude was apparently trading the images via private messaging on social media. I'm guessing Facebook has an automatic system setup to detect child porn? Detecting nude people would be easy, but just flagging nude kids would seem to be much more difficult, especially adult nude bodies with kid heads.

I wonder if all nude images get flagged and then reviewed by a person? If so, that would be an interesting job description to see.

"Define it? Well, uh... I guess... well, I just know it when I see it."
"Excellent; you're hired."

As far as crimes go... no doubt, it's weird, but someone want to explain why pasting images of kids' heads onto porn stars' bodies should be illegal? It doesn't seem like it hurts anybody.

P.S. Would appreciate it if you could change the thread title to "rainbows & puppies"; I only clicked on it because I assumed it was going to be another thread about Trump.

I'm not positive it is illegal, he may have been charged based on other "regular" kiddie porn images.

As such, perhaps the question should be: why is purely computer generated kiddie porn illegal when it doesn't involve a real child at all? That stuff is explicitly identified as illegal in the quote I posted above.

The answer may be that such images increase the likelihood that actual children could be exploited. I'm not sure that's accurate though.

It is illegal in many jurisdictions. In some areas even cartoons count.

The bad thing is- given a few seconds access to your devices, someone can plant child porn on them and you are pretty much fucked.

Was something a while back about an adult woman who very much resembled a minor, who was fighting for her right to do "fake kiddie porn".

I think she lost.

Don't want that search on my browser, however.
