In 2018 we'll be @SEA in both senses of the word! We've just booked a group on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas (sister ship to the Navigator from BGG@SEA 2015). We sail on June 22, 2018.

I don't have everything setup yet to take deposits - we're still focusing on the 2017 sailing - but I want to get the word out there for you to save the date. And to start saving up - Alaska is among the most expensive US destinations, but boy is it worth it!

Here's our itinerary:

Day Port Location Arrival Departure
--- ------------------------- -------- ---------
FRI Seattle, Washington 4:00 PM
SAT Cruising
SUN Juneau, Alaska 12:00 PM 9:00 PM
SUN Alaska Inside Passage
MON Skagway, Alaska 7:00 AM 8:30 PM
TUE Tracy Arm Fjords & Glacier 7:00 AM 12:00 PM
WED Cruising
THU Victoria, British Columbia 9:00 AM 6:00 PM
FRI Seattle, Washington 6:00 AM

And if you just can't wait, join us in just a few month on the largest cruise ship in the world! We're out of Interior cabins, but we still have plenty of balconies and suites!

Too bad it doesn't come to Anchorage. I could meet you guys at the port!

(I don't actually know if cruise ships come here)

They actually port in Seward. My family and I did a cruise from Seward to Vancouver BC a couple years ago that was amazing!

Expensive = $2000/person? $2500? More? Just a rough estimate would be appreciated (obviously don't need to know right now)

Ships do include Anchorage, but Royal currently looks like they use Seward as their Anchorage port, and don't have any 2018 itineraries listed there (Radiance, the class down in size from Explorer, starts/ends cruises there in 2017).

Other cruise lines (e.g. Princess and Crystal) use the Whittier port.

I think an Alaskan cruise is a great idea for the BGG@SEA.

An Alaskan cruise is the one I'm most looking forward to, but we want to wait until our kids are old enough to remember it. I hope a huge group gets together and enjoys it!

Just looking up this itinerary on the same ship for June 2017 (2018 isn't even available on their site yet), the royal website says starting at $1057 pp. I imagine that doesn't include taxes, tips, etc and it would be an interior room without BGG's costs.

Whittier and Seward make a lot more sense as port destinations although Anchorage is THE PLACE TO BE! One day I'll actually go to Sitka and Juneau.

Round-trip one-week cruises like this one don't get that far north. And they definitely don't when they leave from Seattle (vs. Vancouver).

Fri - 19 May 2017 $909 $1,093 $1,621 $2,326
(interior, exterior, balcony, suite)
If the game room is $250 pp and the taxes/tips/port fees are $200 we are looking at $2100 pp for a balcony

(obviously not the official price, but does give folks an idea)

Good point. It's quite a bit further to Seward. Maybe you guys will get all excited while playing Puerto Rico, and someone will be like, "Look at me. I'm the captain now!" and hijack the ship and take it to Anchorage just for me.

Whenever you become anxious or stressed, outer purpose has taken over, and you have lost sight of your inner purpose. Your state of consciousness is primary. All else is secondary.

Due to the Jones act, cruises that depart from the US must return to the same port. So one-way cruises must start or end at Vancouver.

They come into Seward or Whittier ... I am not sure if any cruise lines go into Anchorage

Previously discussed I see

It looks like Holland America has a 14-night cruise that stops for a day in Anchorage, but that's all I could find currently listed.

A few do but most of them go to Seward instead.
