My clue's pointing this way...

Apologies if this isn’t the correct forum for this question.

My friends and I are starting a review website for board games and as part of the review we want to compare the BGG score to our scores. The problem is the BGG score changes over time.

So instead of stating the score I wanted to know if there was a way to link the score directly from BGG so that the image / number updates automatically.

Also educate me if there are any relevant legal concerns in doing this, assuming I am making it clear where the BGG score is coming from and that it is not my own.

Thanks!

Yes, exactly this.

You would need to use the API to link to a game, and pull in it's stats. For example: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/xmlapi2/thing?id=193949&stats=... gives you the Star Trek: Ascendancy information (ratings are at the end).

You would then need to use code in the language of your choice to parse this information, and (I would recommend) saving the relevant parts to your own database. You can then run a daily/weekly cron job to update the ratings held in your system with the latest BGG ones, or alternatively just connect to the API and grab the BGG rating every page view (but that could get resource intensive, and you'd be limited by the API's up-time).
