Any suggestions on how to play this monster? Seems to need a big play area just for the map! About 1.8m x 1.2m (68 inches x 46 inches).

Biggest table I have is 1.5m x 1.5m

How long is this likely to lie around?

It's big all right, and it will require a fair amount of time to complete. I can't say if our time was representative, but it took us (two players with a good understanding of the rules and solid player aids) about an hour to an hour and a half per season, on average, so the entire war's going to take a couple of very full days. Early war years can be as quick as half an hour or less per season, and I recall a few turns late in the war were over two hours each. Having more players could reduce the time further too. It's not reasonable to expect to do a 39 or 41 scenario in an evening. I've played three full war scenarios and all took just over two full days. It's quite engaging, however--the time just flies by--and it offers some solid insight into the theater.
