"Linko" is "lynx" in Esperanto. "Abluchsen" means to wrangle something out of somebody, maybe use fraud or extortion to get money from someone - ie. a bit shady activity. In English you may say "Outfoxed" if you're really cunning, this is just "Outlynxed".

"Abluxxen", which is the original title, stems from the german word "abluchsen" which means "to take something away from someone". The game is about stealing cards. Since german "Luchs" (which is part of "abluchsen") means "lynx", the cards show that animal. The "xx" used instead of "chs" refer to the x-cards in the game, which are the best.

"Linko" is the international title and probably just refers to the fact that you have to link cards of the same value together.

Edit: seems that Linko also means lynx!

“The word “Abluxxen” doesn’t exist in German. It is an artificial word. The correct writing of “Abluxxen” is “Abluchsen”, and that means to take away or to rob or to steal in a cunning manner.

The name of a lynx in German is “Luchs”, like abluchsen. Therefore we have the cunningly looking lynx (on the cards).

The international title is “Linko”. The word “Lynx” is not free, we couldn’t use it as the title.

“Linko” is the translation of the word “Luchs” in Esperanto.”
