I'm posting this here because I couldn't find anything in the Harbor expansion's own entry.. maybe this is just a thing with the Deluxe edition's rules.

The rules for making the Marketplace first say that you only take an amount of each purple establishment equal to the amount of players.
It even gives you a direct example: "in a 3 player game you take 3 Tax Offices, 3 Stadiums etc, put the rest back in the box."

But then, under replenishment, it says "If there are any purple cards in the Marketplace that nobody can buy because everyone already has a copy of that card, discard the rest to the box."

These two seem to contradict each other. How could there be any left that nobody can buy anymore, if the amount of each card is equal to the number of players?
The second situation/rule is only possible if you did put in all 5 copies of each purple card when playing with less than 5 players.

The reason I'm asking is: the amount of each card that you put in the main supply affects the chances of that specific card coming up in the Marketplace (especially early on). So it's kinda important to know.

Thanks for the help!

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

In your world, I have another name. You must learn to know me by it. That was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.

As you said, which approach you take will affect the odds of purple cards coming into the marketplace. Personally, I can't imagine bothering to take out the cards ahead of time. The way I see it, you simply have to decide whether you want those cards to come out less frequently. We play with the full deluxe version, and so the deck is MASSIVE. If I bothered to weed out the extras according to player count (gag me before asking me to do so), then it would dramatically diminish the odds of those cards coming out at all.

Thanks for the reply. But, so as far as you know, there's no official rule one way or the other?

I think I will equal the amount to the number of players.

In our experience purple cards really are the more annoying 'damage your opponent' cards, so not having a lot of them available seems more fun anyway.

But more importantly: I think that if the "remove excess cards once you all have one" rule were the intended one, they would've put 6 of them in there just like all the other cards. Not 5 (which is the max. player count), making the odds of drawing them off compared to the other colours no matter what you do.
