Exactly what are the differences between the editions and would I have any difficulty using reign of terror expansion with 2nd edition core set?

Simply Put,
2nd edition has a few less characters (kickstarter characters), updated rulebook and scenario book, and a much more compact box.

You can most certainly use Reign of Terror with no problems with either edition of the game

Thanks

If one were to get a copy of 1st ed. how would they go about getting the updated books?

Is there major rule differences or only layout?

Thanks in advance!

Rob

The 2nd edition rulebook and scenario book are available in the files section. The rules are clarified, and there are some minor clarifications and corrections from the FAQ, but the basic rules are the same. If you can get a copy of 1st edition, I would say go for it - 1st edition has 4 extra standard characters, and 4 special ops variant characters (more powerful versions of some characters).

So - do all expansions work for the 2nd edition?

Yes,

2nd Edition is really 2nd Printing... it had some updates regarding Editing and has a few less characters, but overall it's exactly the same as 1st edition other than those Kickstarter Exclusives.

Thanks,

Chris

Who are they and I can check my box. I don't know if mine was a KS version or not as I got it in trade and I only know it's in the big box.

The first edition has 4 extra standard characters and 4 'Special Ops' variants (which are more powerful than standard characters).

The 4 extra standard characters are available in the Fate's Fortune expansion.
I personally have never used the Special Ops variants - my group enjoys the difficulty with the standard characters.
