Ok, I realize for some this might cross some boundaries that perhaps ought not to be crossed...

But NorseKnight Creations' models on Shapeways for Kings of Air and Steam really look pretty sweet.

Just a thought.

(Very few are actually "Steam Punk" but I think you can see where I'm going with this...)

Had not seen those. They're great!

As those are not actual space ships, some being paddle powered, they'd be somewhat out of place in the standard Verse. But...

It would be pretty simple to create a Steampunk re-skin for Firefly. The aesthetic is mostly the same. All you really need is to recreate the map. If you put together a map that was based on a planet - any planet - where the systems are "territories", you would keep all the same names and relationships, so you could use all (well, almost all) the cards.

Alliance, Border, and Rim Space become Alliance, Border, and Rim or "Principalities" or "Lands" or something similar. The various planets become towns and cities within those Territories.

Not sure I would go so far as to completely re-skin the entire game.

But I think this variant might be best played as a themed game. So everyone plays a steam punk inspired space ship.

A goodly amount of steam punk focuses on airships. Which are a fanciful but frankly impossible scenario. Some suspension of disbelief is required. We just need to come up with a name for a paddle wheel drive core and pretend it does something in space.

Steam powered airships could never have actually gotten off the ground. Let alone been terribly effective. So I'm willing to suspend disbelief enough to take them into space.

Cards could be fun. Lots of clothing and replacement body parts. Top Hat (Fancy Duds), Goggles, Mechanical Arm, Construct Leg, Telescopic Eye, Cog Boots, Steam Rifle, Self-Tying Bow-Tie. And of course all the classic cannons, swords, grape shot.

I may have to spend some more time conjuring up ideas...

I think gwek has already been considering the Tales of the Ketty Jay book series.

To be honest Kings of Air and Steam is one of my favorites. It Draws a lot of similarities with Firefly being a pick up and deliver game. If you have not tried it I'd recommend it. it does not receive the acclaim it deserves.
