Jailers Abilities state that if he Investigates a Mafia Player then that Player, "cannot use their abilities, participate in Mafia killings, or vote during the day, but they can participate in discussions. At dawn the facilitator announces the name of the player in jail…"

Does the Facilitator announce the players REAL name or their ROLE name?

It seems that an argument can be made for both. For example, if there are only 4 Mafia Thugs in the game and you announce the ROLE name how do you know which one it is?

Conversely, if you announce the REAL name of the player it guarantees they will be killed during the DAY phase and conflicts with the concept that the Facilitator can't use a Players REAL name during the NIGHT Phase or that a Players identity is not revealed until they are killed.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

You reveal the player's real name at dawn to let everyone know that player can't vote during the day.

And yeah, that's a phenomenally powerful version of the Jailer. A full-role seer that's also a selective role-blocker and publicly reveals Mafia targets? That's crazy strong.

Thanks for your reply Greg. It does seem like the Jailer is too powerful; but then again, you just may be right.

The way I have always seen it played and have played it is that while a player is in jail, they cannot be nominated to be killed during the day.

Also, if you have the Jailer with the Snitch and/or the Impostor, it makes for VERY interesting gameplay.

Note that if at anytime all mafia members are 'in jail' the civilians would obviously win the game.
