As a werewolf you'll be a melee fighter, so I'd go strength first, and try to maintain enough Dexterity (or Skills that boost your Attack rating) that you'll average close to an 80% hit rate or more versus the tougher monsters per level. You get a slight Energy boost just by leveling up.

One of the SHapeshifting skills gives you Life and Mana Leech.

1 Point per Poison or Carrion Vine is good enough. Any Vine is one more cheap party member to attract the bad guys attention away from you.

If your summoned wolves are tough enough, you won't be spending Mana to replace them very often unless you are facing off against an Act Boss.

My priority would be to insure I could handle most situations with just my merc and without the wolfpack.

The Desert Merc with the Defensive Aura is the best for parties of Summoned critters.

As said earlier though, I've done a Werewolf Druid before. My current Druid is trying to see if he can beat the game on normal without getting blood on his hands. Primarily with Ravens, Dire Wolves and his Merc. He is half way through act 3 on normal.

Depends on the build. If you do the build I suggested, you put every last point into str. You don't need much energy at all and you'll leech what you do need. You don't need dex, cause your skills will multiply the crap out of it and mauls don't have a dex requirement. Just get a couple of dex charms. Only put points other than str if you need it to wear gear.

Hey, here's a stupid question. Currently I play online. I don't know why I do this, since I don't play with other folks and have no interest in doing so. Something in my brain makes me think there's different equipment online? Is that true? If I'm not interested in interacting with others, is there any reason to play online?

I think certain items only drop in ladder games. Don't quote me, though. And you can trade online. Not much trading going on solo.

Online, you could do things like cow and Baal runs to farm for items, and this worked best if you had several characters so that you would have someone for every great item you find. Otherwise, you have to trade, and I've always been afraid of dupes, scams, and the like.

Online play was fun long ago but I switched to solo once it became too hard to find games that weren't farming runs.

Also, one of the best things about Carrion Vine is that it chews up corpses so that they don't get revived.

Last I played D2, only some of the very high-end equipment was online-only. There are also a few formulae for the Horadric cube that only work online, too. Unless you're planning on playing Hell difficulty, I wouldn't worry about missing any of this.

There's another feature that's online only. There are secret levels where you can fight uber versions of the act bosses. Again, if you're not in Hell difficulty, you won't miss it.

Now this is awesome. I moved Uvula off of the online game and restarted him in single-player mode. I'm up to four wolves and it's hilarious to watch them just tear through a group of bad guys. I still have to help them out with Shamen, cause they don't know that those guys will just re-pop the others over and over. Decent wolf heads are starting to drop, but I haven't found one I really like yet.

Is there any particular melee weapon type I want to look for? Does anything drop with Druid enhancements?

Thanks for the tips guys!

You can read more about Uvula here.

Although I don't play much anymore, I was a DII Single Player for some years now.

Quote:

Everything you can do on the ladder - and this includes items, upgrade recipes and runewords - you can do in SP except the following:

- Some Runewords (though there is a Mod out there to allow for those)
- Uber Diablo incl. Annihilus (for this, too, there's a Mod, but that's a bit sketchy as you don't have to spend anything to provoke big D to appear)
- Uber Tristram quest (you can find the keys but they do nothing). There's no functioning Mod to get this, as the AI code is Server-side.

Instead, you get the players/X command that allows you to set the difficulty by adding pseudo-players to the game. And you can use local tools to manage your items between the characters or store them for later use. Much better than mule characters.

I think around Act 5, you may start to see some random clubs drop with Druid skills. There are also some mid to high level set items and uniques for Druids as well.

I know there are a lot of mods out there to do all sorts of crazy things, but there's one in particular I'd like to run if it exists. Simply put, I'd like to know what an item in my inventory will sell for when I'm not at a shop. Does this exist?

Not that I knew of one, but I never was into mods myself. But Why would you want such a thing?

Too often I'm carrying around stuff to sell that it turns out I should have junked. I'd like to be able to know the selling price to make my looting more efficient.

If it's just money you're after, look out for those:

- Anything with skill bonuses is your friend, so look out for those necro wands, sorceress staves and paladin maces, they often have those even when unenchanted.

- Body armour is good. The bigger the better (who would have thought). Even white Elite and better Exceptional versions reach the 35k cap.

I've noticed that. I always imagined this was some kind of bug that would be addressed, but the 1.11 patch didn't change it. What's the reasoning on this?

Also, here's another possibly stupid and useless thing I'd like. One thing I like about online vs. solo is that online, when you revisit an area, it re-rolls it. Is there a way to get it to do that in solo?

Roguelikes FTW!

fyi, Diablo is pretty much just a realtime roguelike, but without the depth of the ASCII/tile turn-based games.

My problem with roguelikes in the past (I haven't played one in a while, so perhaps these issues have been addressed) has not been lack of graphics but lack of fun. Starving to death 80% of the time simply because food doesn't drop isn't fun. Losing all of your equipment when you die isn't fun. (In fact, having to start from scratch when you die isn't fun.) I'd be more than willing to try one out, but so many of the ones I looked at had these "features" to them. (And, no Tolkein, thanks.)

Starvation and running out of light are real possibilities in roguelikes. You learn to either (a) have a spell ready to sustain your needs or (b) carry around food and a light source!

A roguelike is a game where "scumming" characters is considered cheating. You die, you sigh, and you create another guy. It's more like seeing how far you can go in Tetris than building an mmorpg character.

Tolken is strictly optional. I first played "Moria" (a Tolkein themed one from way back in the day) on a Tandy. I got into Zangband, then found my way to ToME. I hear that ADoM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Domains_of_Mystery) is pretty nice as well.

Check out http://www.thangorodrim.net/ for more variants.

And when no food appears on the level for you to carry around? I'm sorry, but restarting 30 times because the game won't give me enough food isn't fun.

On many roguelikes, you can recall to the surface and back into the dungeon. I'm not sure which variant you've tried in the past, but I agree that being unable to recall sucks =)

I was curious how he was doing. I'm trying to run two necromancers, a reviver and a boner, plus a summoning Druid at the same time to catch up the other character types who are already in Nightmare. My three laggards are all in Act III of Normal. Keep us updated periodically.

Right now I'm still in Act I of nightmare. I'm near the end, but I keep sidetracking myself because I'm obsessed with building a runeword on a maul. I don't even know which word I'm going to do (and I've nowhere near the runes I need to do so; my best one right now is Shael). So I keep killing the Countess over and over to try and build up runes.

I've put all my stat points into strength, and right now I use Lycanthropy, Werewolf, Dire Wolves (I think...whatever the second wolves are), and Feral Rage. I also have the second spirit I keep around, and Ravens when I want to give enemies more distractions. I don't know if my equipment is where it should be, but not too much is giving me a hard time.

dang man this is just wrong.

i never actually played with the druid. i enjoyed watching my necromancer carry around the head way to much to give that up. the only bigger addict i knew other than myself is my wife. she loves the bow and often had most of the baddies killed off before i could come wobbling in with my golem...ah what memories!

i hear world of diablo is right around the corner, in blizard terms i'm guess that means early 2011. probably come the same time as the pirates the boardgame =D
