I was thinking that using all the new cards for 5 players would make rounds take a bit long.

Maybe use 4/8/12/16 of the new cards for 5/6/7/8 players.

Has anyone tried this?

Any recommendations about which cards to pick if only using 4/8/12? If there is no big difference, I was thinking of drawing randomly, maybe even blindly to add some excitement, and maybe even redrawing each round, but that could take a while (although since each round ends with most cards face up, experienced players could quickly remove the new cards, add them to the unused new cards, and then redraw the correct number rather quickly.)

The base game uses a system where 3 cards are drawn and placed face-up (plus the 1 face down as always) when playing with 2 players. Maybe a similar system could be used?

Hang on - two of the three drawn and placed aside for 2p are played face up?? We have so totally been getting that wrong for years.

@Ian

The rules for two players state that:

* You should take one card and put it aside face down, as usual.
* In addition, you should also take three more cards and put them aside face up. All players can examine these three cards during the game.
