Isn't that an obvious opening for CSA when Shields starts on board?
You move the cavalry (Conrad's Store)+ force march Ewell and his troops in Standardsville for a strong attack on Luray. You can also move your Ruckersville forces to Sperryville.
It's no use to reinforce as the defender from New Market b/c of gap/bridge restrictions/penalties.

As I recall it's a good move if you wish to impede shields form exiting the board.

Which rules version are you using?

The Union should use Shields to delay Ewell and Ewell should be used to force Shields to spread-that Shields cannot easily move through the Luray gap and set up a defensive position and exit the map with ease.

Jackson may decide to attack union forces at Mc Dowell. I is a good idea
you sort of want to limit Fremont- make him spread as well.

Remember Leader blocks do not count against move/stacking/and supply.

They are the key to winning battles, so use Jackson/ full strength leaders wisely.

Enjoy but carefully study each move- it is a road/chess game I think it is
one of the best of the CG games.
