I was going through my thrift store copy of Victory in the Pacific and found an AH catalog from 1983. You could have had an Avalon Hill hat for only $7! They also sold "microcomputer games."

Some highlights from the prices of you favorite games:

*Fantasy
Dune: $16
Freedom in the Galaxy: $21
Legend of Robin Hood: $6
Magic Realm: $16
Titan: $16
Wizard's Quest: $16

*Strategy/Wargames:
Caesar at Alesia: $14
Circus Maximus: $9
Civilization: $22
Diplomacy: $17
Gunslinger: $20
Kingmaker: $16
Midway: $16
Napoleon: $14
Panzerblitz: $16
Squad Leader: $18
Victory in the Pacific: $14

*Family Games
Acquire: $18
Rail Baron: $15
Twixt: $18

Aw, the beauty of time, inflation and scarcity.

Heh, those were the days, eh?

I have had most of those games, but have sold off quite a few over the years. If I had to start over today, knowing what the games are like (and buying at those prices), I'd go for;

Dune: $16
Magic Realm: $16
Titan: $16
Civilization: $22
Diplomacy: $17
Gunslinger: $20
Napoleon: $14
Squad Leader: $18
Victory in the Pacific: $14
Acquire: $18

And give the rest a miss.

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!

I couldn't believe the number of games in this catalog, and the video games took me completely by surprise. Could any of them still be floating around?

They were made for a variety of platforms. You could get them on cassette for: TRS-80 Color, TRS-80 Models I & II, Apple II, PET CBM 64, Atari 400/800, Vic 20. On diskette: TRS-80 Models I & II, Atari 400/800, IBM PC. They require between 16K and 64K in memory.

Here are a few of the microcomputer games (R) with their descriptions and prices. I used bold where they did. Where a game has two prices, that meant it had a choice of two different memory requirements.

The Alien--Subdue an alien aboard a space laboratory before it becomes more deadly. Graphics. $28

Fredericksburg--Two-player game of the war in Fredericksburg. $35

Gypsy--An arcade game where you guide a happy-go-lucky moth through the leafy mazes of a Qok tree, avoiding perils. $21/26

Space Station Zulu--Humorous strategy game of space station defense. $20/25

Legionnaire--Caesar vs. the Barbarians. Game contains unbelievable graphics and sound. $34/40

Nukewar--Will you defend your country by espionage or keep an itchy finger on the panic button? $16/21

Galaxy--1 to 20 player game of exploration and conflict where you compete for control of up to 40 solar systems. Sound. $20/25.

G.F.S. Sorceress--Vindicate Joe Justin in hi struggle to prove himself not guilty of murder. $30/35.

Telengard--50 level dungeon exploration game with all the necessary ingredients. $23/28

Computer Acquire--Solitaire or multi-player game of entrepreneural skill in the world of high finace. $20/25

Knockout--Rock 'em-sock 'em arcade boxing game. $20

Shootout at the OK Galaxy--Superb arcade game of seek-out and blow 'em to smithereens! $20/25

For the games, look on the website home of the underdogs. They have lots of abandondware and AH titles.
