Which are the conditions for a creature for getting the counterstrike ability?

- Does it gain counterstrike when it is guarding altough it only has a full action melee attack?

- Does it only gains counterstrike if it is guarding AND has a quick action melee attack?

- Does a creature which isn't guarding can always counterstrike if it has a quick melee attack?

When a creature has a Guard marker, its quick attacks (lightning symbol) gain the Counterstrike trait. If it doesn't have any quick attacks, then it won't counterstrike.

Some creatures (but very rarely) have attacks that always have the Counterstrike trait (eg it's written on their card). And some spells can grant the Counterstrike trait (eg Retaliate).

iNano is correct. Look at the porcupine. It's attack actually has the counterstrike trait. While other creatures need to guard to give their quick action melee attacks the counterstrike trait.
