There's a theory: if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There's another theory: this has already happened.

So, Codex is now officially ranked better than MtG on BGG [EDIT: in the customizable category]. Well done, Mr. Sirlin!

Selection bias will almost certainly play into this rating. People who generally don't like Sirlin won't even have this on their radar, while people who like Sirlin's style will own the Collector's Edition and play the heck out of it whenever they can...

Same could be said about MTG?

I think, generally speaking, folks on BGG don't really care for MTG. The game gets a bad rap for it's "collectible" nature. I rank it in my top 3 games, but I think I am unique here on BGG in that regard.

Selection bias plays into just about every game, but probably moreso for expensive games (Codex and ultimately MTG included).

Not *unique*, but I think us MtG fans are in a minority here, at least. But I'm astonished at how good Codex is: I've been a huge fan of Magic for 15 years, and played a number of other similar games that weren't anywhere near as good; Codex managed to come straight in at 9, and might well join MtG at 10 for me.

I wouldn't put any stock into (or draw any conclusions from) how Magic is ranked here at BGG.

Am I missing something? It looks to me that Magic is ranked #137 and Codex is ranked #1355.

I was looking at the customizable rank. I assumed that this was just a subset of the global ranking, retaining the same order.

Turns out, that is not true. Weird.

I would have to agree. My guess is that MTG gamers have their own dedicated websites they tend to go to. Thus I think the ratings of the two respective games is based more upon sample bias. But clearly, among BGG'ers, Codex is more well rated than MTG. That's nice but not unexpected.

It is still pretty decent tho, right? Hopefully people will notice it more, at least those who enjoy collectables, and at that point it might end up being ranked even higher after that ^^

I'm sure it will move up if it gets enough buzz on BGG. Vasel loved it so that undoubtedly will help too. If Rahdo & Eddie review it, that'll give it another bump. I'm getting about 6 or so hits per day on my forums subscription, so if that keeps up it will rise. Not sure if it's on the hotness right now, but if it gets there again, that'll boost its ranking too.
