Welcome to the Star Realms Masters Series, Gambits Discipline!

This is the main competition thread for the Gambits Discipline, while there will be plenty of information contained here, additional information can be found in the main thread, and the discipline qualification thread:

Star Realms Masters Series – main discussion & announcement thread
Star Realms Masters Series – Gambits, registration & qualification

The Gambits Discipline is centered on competition using the Gambits digital expansion and the original Base Set for this season. Players who have qualified for the discipline should subscribe to this thread, as well as leave a thumbs-up.

The qualifier and starter tournaments are both played as type-G, while the crossover tournaments on the circuit for this discipline will be type-G1, type-GE, type-GF, type-GH, and type-GB. There are six chances to earn an entry into the Mastery Invitational, by winning the starter tournament, or finishing top-3 in any of the crossover tournaments. All discipline qualifiers will participate in the Mastery Open tournament. Both halves of the Mastery tournament will be played as type-G.

Qualifier Tournament
If you are here legitimately, it means that you have already qualified, and this part of the competition is behind you. You would have earned 2 trophy points as a group winner, or 1 trophy point if you tied for the win.

Starter Tournament
The qualifiers will also move on to the second stage of the tournament, which will be the discipline starter tournament, a double elimination tournament. As with the other double elimination tournaments in the masters series, matches in the top bracket will be played as best-of-3 games, while matches in the losers bracket will be played as single-games. This is to keep the lower bracket on pace with the upper. The winner of the losers bracket will play the winner of the winners bracket in a best-of-five, with a one game advantage given to the upper player. The winner receives 3 trophy points, second and third place each earn 2 trophy points, fourth through eighth each earn 1 trophy point.

Gambits Qualifier/Starter - Challonge Page

Crossover Tournaments
Each crossover tournament will be a double-elimination tournament that qualifiers from two separate disciplines will come together to compete in. As with the starter tournament, matches in the top bracket will be played as best-of-3 games, while matches in the losers bracket will be played as single-games, and the final match will be played as a lop-sided best-o-five. The winner receives 4 trophy points, second and third place each earn 3 trophy points, fourth through eighth each earn 2 trophy point, and ninth through sixteenth all receive 1 trophy point. Participants who have qualified for both disciplines will receive the full amount of rewarded trophy points toward their ranking in both disciplines.

Mastery Tournament
In the Open half of the tournament, which will be a single elimination tournament with best-of-three matches by default, advantages will be given to players who have accumulated more trophy points than their opponents. In matches during the first three rounds where one player has at least 3 more trophy points than their opponent, the match will be played as a lopsided best-of-five. Entry into the Invitational half requires winning the Starter tournament or finishing in the Top-3 of any of the Crossover tournaments. Players in the Invitational will have their trophy point score reduced in the Open for purposes of seeding and advantages. The format of the Invitational will depend on the number of participants. The winners of both halves will compete in a Mastery Finale to determine the discipline master.

So now we're back to best of 3, and thus don't need to play all three? I was wondering why I was only getting two invitations (and sorry to those who I nudged into playing an unnecessary third game).

AgentSeto, what's your availability for the next 36 hours? I'd like to finish our Game 3 before I go on honeymoon on Friday.

Adam, I won't have any sort of consistent signal from Friday, November 25 until Saturday, December 3rd. I apologize for the delay and will catch up when I'm back. This also applies to the Fleets losers bracket. Thanks!

Well, I saw this just as the match was coming to a close. So no problem at all. Good games, and have fun!

Yeah, that got out of hand quickly. Your recycling station stayed up for like four freaking turns....almost struggled back in, but too little too late. The gambits were crazy in your favor anyways lol, and our previous games (even the one I won) I about threw my phone from all my bottom decking. 'Twas quite fun! Best of luck with the rest of the tourney, hopefully I see you in the finals

Will play loser bracket match when I return if that's alright with everyone.

So... I'm still waiting for dommola and ShinyObject to finish.

Anyone seen or heard from these guys lately?

Been waiting a while now, and it seems that is holding up the next 3 brackets.

Dommola is on vacation until at least Monday, so his play may be pretty slow.

The Gambits Starter Tournament has reached the Grand Final

Zingy won the losers bracket final, putting Codger in 3rd place.

Zingy will now face AgentSeto in the final, a rematch from the Winner's Final, but will need to overcome the 1-game disadvantage to attain redemption. Good luck!

AgentSeto def. Zingy, 3-2 in a Ad/W/L/L/W fashion, needing that deciding game to clinch. Good games, again!

Will do. An across-the-board update is way overdue. Will get that done today, hopefully.

I did find it a bit odd to play Zingy again, having been bumped into the losers bracket from our previous matchups... oh well, good luck Zingy!

Yeah, that's just how DE's work. Early rounds do some bracket cross pollination to avoid rematches, but its unavoidable once you get into the finals.

Unlucky draws in that last round Randt, but by my calculations, without heros or events in the mix, I would have been able to win the next turn even with both bases up. Still very good games.

So it is probably time I re-evalutate my expansion preferences as my least favourite has always been gambits and then promos. Almost didn't even enter them because I have no experience playing them. Looking forward to the final
