I don't think I got an answer when I asked this here, so I'll repeat it:

galad2003 wrote:
I think if you add in the liberal smugness and elites cramming political correctness down our throats and you have people, like me, that when they went to the polls and thought about the twelfth smug Hollywood celebrity commercial telling us how to vote that we just said fuck it and pushed that Trump button.

If those people didn't like being called stupid or whatever for being Trump supporters before they voted him into office, I wonder how they're going to feel when he does fuck-all to improve their situation. They're the people he's spent his life screwing over; although it would be wonderful (and I suppose possible) for him to change now, I don't see any reason to expect that to happen. Do you disagree? If not, what do you think happens in 4 years: they rally behind him again because he's provided someone other than Hillary to blame, or they turn on him, or what?

Quite welcome...it came across my FB feed.

I thought it was well reasoned and well written, with good points all around.

And again, you fail to understand the very message of the opinion piece at all.

The very fact that Trump's supporters were called names up front without even the pretense of discussion from the Hillary supporters is why liberals got pasted this election.

Without acknowledging that basic fact, life's gonna be a lot rougher.

It seems the media bias against Trump and his supporters will continue on as usual.

Take this Yahoo story for example: https://www.yahoo.com/news/acts-of-intimidation-violence-and...

This story talks about numerous incidents (people spray painting mean things at a high school, etc.) and unsuprisingly, puts the only case of actual violence at the very end of the story. It this case it was a Trump supporter who was pulled from his car and brutally gang attacked and beaten in Chicago by a group of black men who yelled "you voted Trump."

I think perhaps the biggest losers, after Clinton herself of course, out of this election is the mainstream media. Their bias, "smugness", lies and ignorance made even more obvious. In the end they rely a great deal on their credibility with people and that credibility took a big hit this election cycle.

I don't believe many of the investors in his casinos or attendees of his "university" were among his voters. Beyond that, it depends on what happens between now and the next election and who the Democrats put up against him.

Pfffff.

Once again.

Trump beat the media.

Hillary didn't campaign. She farmed out her campaign to MSNBC, RSP, Obama, and Facebook.

No press conferences. Very few rallies. Her few rallies drew dozens of supporters unless more popular people were there.

Here's the kicker: that was a smart move. Had she actually mounted a campaign she would have lost bigger.

So the "media" thought Trump was stupid, but him or likely some Lex Luthor type in his camp played them like a fiddle. If anyone should be eating humble pie this week it is the Washington press corp.

A capable huckster isn't a capable leader. Let's see Trump parlay his "victory" into meaningful leadership.

It's a good article. Another issue with mainstream media is that they have a bad ratio of facts to opinion. If most of their work was fact based journalism, their opinion pieces would be more grounded. Maybe that's just en effect of 24 hour news: need to fill the time.

Sadly, he's also correct about how the press will respond...

Quote:
You’d think that Trump’s victory – the one we all discounted too far in advance – would lead to a certain newfound humility in the political press. But of course that’s not how it works. To us, speaking broadly, our diagnosis was still basically correct. The demons were just stronger than we realized.

I get it, they are whiny shitheads who voted a rapist into office because someone called them a bad name. I've met plenty of people like that in my life, but as already pointed out, Trump isn't going to help them, if anything, he will do more damage to their situation than Hillary would.

Hillary lost because 1 out of 100 people voted for Trump instead of her. That isn't a big margin, it isn't something that requires a lot of soul searching. If the Democrats had a slightly better candidate, they would have won. If that had Bernie, it would have been a landslide. It is clear you don't get that, and that is fine, but four years from now, a fair number of those Trump voters will be dead and a fair number of the Democrat voters will have turned 18. The slightly older ones will vote more often than they had before, as older people generally do. The 18 years olds will not vote much, but they will vote.

This election wasn't the beginning of a new Republican era, it was the water pulling out before the coming demographic tsunami sweeps the Republicans detritus away. That tsunami is still 8 to 12 years away, but 4 years from now the water will be up to the Republican's torso, 8 years from now it will be up to their ears, and 12 years from now we'll be wondering where all the Republicans went.

What media is it that does it any differently? Info Wars and Breitbart? Fox News? Where is all of this non main stream media that primary deals with facts instead of opinion?

Every one you listed, except Fox, is proudly, unabashedly conservative, and doesn't pretend to be anything else.

The big media is as far to the left, but pretends to be neutral and impartial.

A little reflection on that fact would go a long ways.

Yes. We are liberal. Take it or leave it.

I guess I agree that I fail to understand the message of the opinion piece--I'm not a journalist, so I don't think it was written for me--but I don't think you've got it either. I can believe the media's disdain for Trump voters is the reason liberals didn't expect Trump to win; but if people voted for Trump because they wanted to spite the media who said Trump voters were stupid, all they've done is prove the media right.

Ferretman wrote:
