A buddy asked me this question so I thought I'd ask BGG.

He thought that the various player pieces for Monopoly--thimble, hat, car--was a new innovation, compared to other games that just colored pawns. Is this so? Obviously we're not talking games like chess or shogi where each player handles an army of individual pieces. I'm interested if there are any pre 1935 games where each player has their own individualized player token.

So?

I think Peter Rabbit's Race Game might qualify.

More thematic than a roll-and-move race game has any right to be, and celebrates its 100th birthday next year.
