I like to build solo play variants for many of my games as there is a scarcity of players where I live. Here's another!

Order of the Gilded Compass Solo
by Don Riddle

Setup
Set up the game as for 2 players, yourself and an AI player, giving both players 8 dice and a “reroll” token. Take a “Secret Collection” tile for yourself; the AI doesn’t need one.

Put out the Archives, the University, the Auction House and the Library, in that order. When placing Maps and Specialists, place them always in the order you take them from the supply.

Put one of the AI’s dice on the Archives board and one on the University board, setting both dice to “6”.

Gameplay
You will start each round, rolling all your dice and placing them as normal. When your turn is finished, the AI will take a turn. Instead of the AI rolling all of its dice, it (you) will instead roll only one of its dice along with one of the black dice that come with the game. The result on the black die determines where the other die will be placed. 1-2 places the die on the Archives board; 3-4 places the die on the University board; and 5-6 places the die on the Auction House board. If the black die is a 3 or 4 but there is no space remaining for placement on the University board, the other die is placed at the Library instead. Otherwise, the AI has no restrictions for placing its dice. This is especially important when considering the Auction House, as the AI does not need to have its dice there in sequence, while you still do.
Note: It is intentional that the AI only has 6 more dice to place (since it starts each round with a “6” on both the Archives and University boards), and so will have exactly 6 turns each round.
After both you and the AI have finished placing all dice, the boards will be resolved in order, starting with Archives. Before resolving, group all the AI dice on Archives in the best possible sets. If an AI set matches one of yours, place the AI set above yours in “picking” order. Maps are then chosen as normal. When it’s the AI’s turn to choose a Map, it will always choose the highest value Map available. If possible Maps are tied, it will choose the Map nearest to the top of the "placed out" order unless the AI already has an unassignable Specialist it can assign to one of the other tied Maps. As normal, when all maps have been chosen, remaining dice on this board are sent to the Library.
The University resolves as normal. When it’s the AI’s turn to choose a Specialist, it will always choose the highest value Specialist available. If there is a tie, it will choose the Specialist nearest to the top of the "placed out" order unless the AI already has a Map without assignable Specialists to which one of the other tied Specialists would be assignable.
All of the AI’s dice on the Auction House are counted as one group, disregarding the sequence requirement which you still have there. If the AI's group is tied with your group (for number of dice present), the AI wins the tie. Whether 1st or 2nd, you collect your reward as normal, discarding one of the tiles you’re entitled to. But the AI keeps all tiles from its reward (3 for 1st, or 2 for 2nd).
Lastly, resolve the Library, giving each player a “reroll” token for each of their dice placed here.

Remember, when setting up for the next round, to replace the AI’s two “6”’s back onto the Archives and University boards.

Scoring
Scoring is as normal with the exception of the AI’s Artifacts received from the Auction House. Reveal all of the AI’s Artifact tiles. The color which it has the most of will grant it 4 points per tile; the secondmost common in its collection will grant 2 points per tile; but the AI recieves no points for its remaining tiles. (If groups are tied for 1st, one group becomes 2nd; If groups are tied for 2nd, one group is disregarded.) Of course, when grouping the AI’s Maps and specialists, pair them in such a way that it will receive the maximum amount of points. Finally, if your total score is higher, you win. If tied, again, the AI will win the tie.

I would assume so, though I don't have a copy to compare.
