The miniatures arrived today and they are great!

Made of semi-pliable plastic (bend but won't break). Painted.
Sized well for 2nd Edition board. Should fit perfectly on Collector's Edition and Anniversary Edition boards.

Plenty of mountains to configure. Strongholds look great with a few extra minis, too. Very well done and well worth the money!

Additional pictures available upon request. Let me know if you are interested. BGG members get 20% off!

May want to add "custom" to the subject of this post. This post will trigger something very different for those waiting on the anniversary edition. : )

those look great! I assume the lit Minas Morgul is custom? If so, do you have a synopsis of what you did?

They look cool, but where do you put the units? Rivendell isn't going to defend itself, you know.

I made some off the board staging cards and put the units there.
Or you can just remove it. Either way....

Thanks!

Added Beorn too...

We like to play with the "what if" scenario of Smaug surviving. Made up our own special card for him, etc. Makes things VERY interesting!

We have a set of several Smaug-related cards.

They are cards I created custom for the games we play.

There is:

1) The Smaug card.
2) His Activation/Muster Card
a) via Sauron
b) via Sarumon
3) Smaug's Weakness Card(the missing scale)
4) Wrath of Smaug Card
5) Town/Fortress Baiting Card

General description of the disposition of Dale and LakeTown and
their units as well as addition of Bolg, wargs, and other forces
that were not destroyed in the Battle of the 5 Armies.

Generally makes for a compelling "what if" as well as play balance.

If I can get the time I will make up a set for you and send you
an electronic file that you can print out!

Sounds like a neat idea. If you do get time, may we ask that you share them here? Even if it is just a rough draft, I have found the BGG community to be great at helping each other. Someone may love your concept and polish up a gem in the rough.

The cards look just like the game cards.

I am a graphic artist and make everything as close to the real thing as possible.

I will be more than happy to post here for everyone to share!

And most willing to take any ideas/suggestions to improve upon what I have, etc.

Looking forward to it!

I am in the minority on this one, but to me, in my opinion, and every other disclaimer I need to not make anyone mad, I feel like these cheapen the look of the game. They look pretty silly and remind me of a happy meal toy. It looks to crowded and I am getting claustrophobic.

(Again this is my opinion and I know I am in the minority and I think it's great that you think they are better than sliced bread. You are right and my opinion is obviously wrong because it isn't the same as yours. I know.)

Hi Mike,

No offense taken. I like them because I don't have to stand up and look where things are on the map. When we play most of the mountains are removed and we leave just the strongholds.

They make a great quick reference point.

I do, however, find your Happy Meal reference hilarious!

Take care and keep on Geekin'....

I agree with Mike that they look Happy Meal in those shots. As Scott wrote he does, if I order these (I probably will) I think I will NOT use most of the mountains and instead just use the strongholds.

I also plan to do a little bit of customizing to these. With a little painting and modelling I am sure I can make them look more "epic" and less "happy meal".

I broke down and picked up the Game of Thrones Westeros map which is also on sale right now, so I managed to get free shipping.

I just grabbed the ThinkGeek LOTR 3D Puzzle offering for my AE War of the Ring edition.

Is there any value in picking up also the 4D Cityscape Hobbit puzzle from Amazon for $29 as well? It only seems to have an additional small set of 3 miniatures that could be added to the game board.

Hobbiton
Bree
Weathertop
Rivendell
Cave of Gollum
