Haha I knew what it was before coming into the thread. Rahdo did the same thing and I've thought of doing it as well. The insert design is super thoughtful but it just adds a healthy amount of time to setup and teardown, and I consider those things more important than perfect protection.

I'm sure we've all though of the same thing. A big bag o' Minions is much easier for actually playing this game.

I forgive you

I am curious. How fast is this "faster"?

I did the same thing as the OP. I don't have to fuss with the trays anymore. There's only a single level of stuff instead of multiple trays stacked on top of each other. We now have the bottom layer - including nifty ax-box, the small covered tray for the mechs, a bag for the minions, and a bag for everything else.

When packing up, I would consistently forget to put something on the bottom away and have to unpack the top layers. When setting up, I also don't have to fish out minions one-at-a-time and can just grab a handful. Putting the minions away is similarly much quicker for me.

I still have the trays in my closet, but I doubt I'll ever use them again.

Insert was the first to go. Sure it looks great, but that's about it. It makes for slower setup and teardown with the insert.

Yep, after our first game I did the same thing. The trays looks pretty, but they just get in the way.

The trays save painters $40 and the wells are better designed than other inserts. But, sure, if you don't intend to paint, take 'em out. I've certainly taken out inserts when I add an expansion to the box, at leat!

Are you guys really so busy you can't spend an extra 2 or 3 minutes putting things back in the well designed trays? I don't get it, but to each their own.

I'm completely fine with that. Be it sleeves, no-sleeves, after market trays, or Plano boxes... We each love to take care of our games in our own way. Nothing wrong with that.

I knew the trays wouldn't be for everyone the same way I knew that the radio play and the 10-minute sound track loops wouldn't be for everyone. I still felt they were worth making for the people who would appreciate them. *shrug* It's possible we missed the mark occasionally, but that happens when you try to nudge the envelope a bit. And at least with this approach, players have the option to keep the trays or not. It's much easier for players to remove the trays and grab a ziploc than grab a custom fitted insert in the after-market. Like you said, to each their own.

I wouldn't worry about not creating the perfect game and storage solution. I don't have your game yet as it's sold out, but have only seen overwhelming praise for the design, components and price. Well done. I'm looking forward to getting it.

I Love Love Love the Radio play. Well done there. It's so well done and brings out the story like you wouldn't believe.

I didn't know this existed.

...Found it, but is there a way to download w/o a Soundcloud account?

The image of the game with the inserts scrapped offends my religion, seems like some kind of political statement, and will make me impotent for weeks. RSP this immediately.

Think it's just the green side of the rune-dice.

Weird, I'm not seeing the OP's post. I figured out what it was, but seems weird that it won't display who posted it or what it was.

I'm seeing the two rune die and the 2 number die. It looks like these glass thingies

Just curious to what it's used for, maybe minion tracker?

I think the image was deleted but you can search for a cached version of the thread.

Unfortunately it seems they deleted it. I thought most of the reaction was in fun.

Yes. At least the thread title came true in the end.

I put all of my minions in a Machi Koro "Harbor Expansion" box (the cards from the exapansion fit in the default Machi Koro box).
