is there a hand limit after the reward cards? i read that you can draw up to hand limit but dont see a rule where you need to discard down to hand limit...

On page four, section "Setting up the game":
Quote:
Deal four city cards face down to each player (five cards if it is a game with just two players).

There is no discard down to hand limit as you can never draw beyond the limit of 4. If the situation arose where you would normally gain a popularity card but you already held 4 cards then you don't get the card. None of the other players would get it either so you are effectively denying it to them.

We played for the first time with a lot of errors. Rule book seems to be divided up into three sections, and if you don't read each section very, very carefully it is easy to make mistakes. Not helped by lack of player aid (we downloaded one half way through the game).

Not very intuitive mechanics. A lot of laborious counting (counting for status, counting striking workers, counting for popularity cards distribution). Never had a game that had so many ties!

I think it will be a game that rewards repeat playing, as we got through the last phase very quickly. First phase painful. However, I think a lot of people will give up after the first play. I can understand why it got lukewarm reaction after Essen.

I'm not allowed to sell my copy, as my wife is from Barcelona, so I guess I'll be playing it a bit more in the future. Hoping the mechanics become a lot more fluid. There's not a whole lot of tough decisions to make, so hoping it can get played in an hour.
