Do the 20 species boards effectively limit the total number of available species or is there supposed to be no limit?

There's technically no limit, but the odds of getting a full 20 species out in play are SUPER low. It's all a combination of the number of players, numbers of traits per critter, etc.

First there was Hearts, then there was Spades, and now we bring you Clubs. The suit of clubs finally gets some respect!

Official Answer:
There is no limit. If you ever need more then 20 in a round, just use something to mark them that round - there is no way there will be 20 left alive for the next round.

I don't know...
No carnivores.
21 Herbivores. All size/population 1. Tropical climate. Several long necks in play as traits. Some with cooperation.
Lots of food voted in to the watering hole.
No net change to climate revealed.

That should do it I reckon. Not very likely I'll grant. But possible.

PS thanks for the

If everyone's trying to max out the number of species around sure. If anyone's trying to win I'm sure a couple people are making carnivore's before that happens.

Also, considering you draw an extra card per species it would be hard to pull that off without running out the deck.

I wasn't suggesting it as a viable strategy. Simply a possible(though improbable) scenario that could defeat Dom's flat denial. laugh

I should have chosen my words more carefully. I've never seen it happen in my 500+ plays. But I play with a fairly cutthroat bunch so they wouldn't let me get away with a bunch of unprotected cooperating long necked tasty morsels.
