Welcome to the Solo Tournament in which you will get a chance not only to playtest the solo rules for Hat-Trick, but also to help and determine a winner of the first Hat-Trick solo tournament.

All you need to do is to pick one venue from the ones below that have not been picked yet, play the match using the solo rules and post a result. The winning team goes through, the loser is eliminated and we move on. You can stop at any point - and you can join at any point as well.

I realize the 'playtesting' part sounds serious, but it is not - I am not looking for pros. I am looking for people who want to play Hat-Trick solo. That's it. So if you have no gaming partner and feel like giving the solo variant a try, instead of playing matches with no context, join us (by picking a venue in the comments) and play any match from the Solo Tournament. All you need to start playing is here (and you can always ask me if something is unclear).
And if you are still undecided, just look at the venues, perhaps you will find something for you.

1st half

2nd half

What I need from you after each match?

1) A RESULT

That's all. The rest is optional.
And here's the optional part (for both teams):

2) SKILLS USED BY A.I. PLAYERS

3) PERHAPS SOME FEEDBACK

Once you pick a venue, please try to play the match within 2-3 days.

Please find below a list of venues already taken which I will be updating with each new participant. Of course after completing one match, you can take another one. And one last thing:
YOU CANNOT PLAY A MATCH WITH THE SAME TEAM IN 2 SUCCESSIVE ROUNDS
Cheers

Re: Solo (Variant) Tournament for playtesters
REP Of IRELAND AI 0 (0) : (0) 1 POLAND HUMAN (Goal Poacher 84')

Shots (including goal);

Rep Of Ireland 3 - all position 2.
Poland 3 - all position 2. (One of these was a saved Penalty)

All goalscoring opportunities ended in a shot for both sides.

In all instances, the goalkeeper guessed correctly.

Yellow Cards - 1 (Rep Of Ireland) resulting in Penalty.

Note : I did not always remember to check the player skills for both the AI and the Human. Next time I will play a little more slowly and check every time.

Whenever you feel like playing solo, just pick a fixture and play it. I simply thought that I'd leave this tournament for anyone wishing to play solo so we can share the experience. So feel free to play as many fixtures as you wish. Tomorrow I'll come back with the Argentina vs Uruguay result.

Ouch. I see that even making my own football game will not let me see England succeed on the international stage
Thanks for that.
I'm adding a new category by the way - 4) SKILLS USED BY A.I. PLAYERS

Re: Solo (Variant) Tournament for playtesters
Austria (AI) vs. Switzerland (H): 0:1 (0:0)

Scorer: No 10 (SWI) - penalty shot

Shots: 1:2 (0:0)
Scoring chances: 1:3 (0:1)
Turnovers: 11:9 (5:6)
Abilities used: utility 9 (AUT); Tall CB 2 (AUT)
All shooting positions =2 (incl. one penalty shot)

The first half ended 0-0 with the main action taking place in the midfield and many turnovers from both teams. The only exception was a free kick awarded to switzerland shortly before the break (swiss No 10 was stopped by No 3 (yellow)). The swiss were unable to turn this opportunity into something valuable.

Afte the break, both teams seemed more focused with turnovers becoming a rarity. A long ball from switzerlands classic wing (9, ability not used) connected with the attacker (10), who was in turn brought down again, this time inside the penalty area. Austria would finish the game with 10 players, and the penalty shot led to the one and only goal of the match.

Another big chance was created for the swiss 10 by a smart pass from 11, into the penalty area again, trying to score with a snapshot, but this time the austrian goalie was the winner.

From then on, turnovers became more frequent again because the swiss team was content with keeping the ball away from their own goal, which worked out in the end.

Sure, no problem, but I would need some tips at what is 'printer friendly'. I stopped printing long time ago right after I got this chip installed in my head and, subsequently, stopped using material objects

The close score does not reflect Brazils superiority in this game. Turkeys No 5 received a yellow card just a few minutes into the game. Brazil was never in any danger, controlling the midfield and their own defence area without problems.
Turkey got at least close to creating a scoring chance during the second half (shortly after the Brazilian goal), but even this was not meant to be...

Thanks Benji for another match AND the report.
If you could always let me know in advance that you're going to play a given match, I'd be most grateful (unless I missed it in which case I apologise).
Btw, are you finding the solo variant too easy (my main concern)?

Sorry, i'll warn you from now On

I don't find it too easy (of course i am far from being an expert). I played the stronger team both times, and the results were both close (altough Brazil played much stronger than Turkey, but that was to be expected). I am looking forward to be playing the underdog next time.

Re: Solo (Variant) Tournament for playtesters
Paraguay 3 (2) : (1) 2 Wales
(Santa Cruz 7’, 37’, 95’) (Bale 10’, Ramsey 49’)

A.I. = Paraguay
Player = Wales

-Number of shots w/ shooting positions:
Paraguay: 6 (3, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2)
Wales: 3 (3, 5, 2)

-Number of times teams conceded possession:
Paraguay: 5 (incl. one scoring opportunity)
Wales: 6 (incl. one Scoring Opportunity)

Skills used: Versatile Midfielder (x2), Utility Man (x2)

Match Report:

First Half:
Paraguay kick-off and thread the ball up the pitch. Santa Cruz moves into a shooting position, 1-0 Paraguay after 7 mins
Wales immediately respond with a nice 1-2 between Bale and Ramsey splitting the Paraguay defense and setting up Bale for a lofted shot just outside the penalty area, 1-1 after 10 mins.
26 mins: Wales again on the break, this time Robson-Kanu bringing the ball up the left wing. The Paraguay defense manage to keep Wales outside the box, forcing a shot from a tight angle on the left side which is easily saved.
37 mins: Santa Cruz causing all sorts of problems for the Welsh defense, gets in behind Williams and slots in a belter from inside the area. Hennessey didn’t stand a chance, 2-1 Paraguay.

HALF-TIME

Second Half:
Wales kick-off and immediately have Paraguay on the back foot. Ramsey wrong foots his defender, easing past the keeper to slot one in. 2-2 after 49 mins.
73 mins: Breaking away from the midfield gridlock, Benitez threads a pass to Valdez who is on goal but never quite positions himself for a clear shot, and the threat is eventually muted by the Welsh defense.
92 mins: In the dying breaths of the second half, Santa Cruz finds himself on goal with only the keeper to beat. Hit hard and low into the corner (power= 8), Hennessey dives to his right and manages to parry the shot but only as far as Santa Cruz, who crosses to Valdez who lashes out with an absolute belter (power = 8 again!). Hennessey lunges across the goal mouth and again gets a hand to the ball(!!!), punching it away from goal but only as far as Santa Cruz! Masterful defending by Williams forces Santa Cruz to the edge of the area. Santa Cruz plays the ball out to Benitez who takes the ball up the left wing and drives a sublime cross into the danger zone. This time the driving header of Santa Cruz cannot be bested by Hennessey, the ball soars into the back of the net above the flailing arms of the Welsh keeper. Santa Cruz completes his Hat-trick, the final whistle blows: 3-2 Paraguay. What an epic match!
