King-domino?
Kingdom-ee-no?
King-do-mee-no?

What's the official pronunciation?

Of course I've been up all night! Not because of caffeine, it was insomnia. I couldn't stop thinking about coffee.

I have no idea what the official pronunciation is.
However, if you pronounce it any way other than King-domino you are obviously wrong

Kingdom-ino might also be acceptable. Although I think this is a slightly different game about a kingdom ruled by a dinosaur (aka dino).

I've been saying the second but I suspect the first is the intended one.

K-I-NG-DOMI-NO

K-I as in Künstliche Intelligenz (german for artificial intelligence).
NG as the Vietnamese Family Name
Domi as nickname for Dominik
No as in yes

I say the first two syllables like "Kingdom" and the last two like the second half of "domino", because that points out how the pun in the name doesn't actually work.

It's like the Snowlets, who were the mascot of the 1998 Winter Olympics. Whether you say it to rhyme with "Wow-lets" or "Whoa-lets", half of the pun is gone.

My friend says "King Domino" because that's the most sensible way I guess.

I really wish they had named it something else.

"King Domino" makes it sounds like it some kind of super domino game. Like, "This is the king of domino games!"

"Kingdom-eeno" makes it sound like a tiny kingdom. And it doesn't sound like it's related to dominoes at all because the "i" in "domino" doesn't have an "ee" sound.

So I guess the best compromise is to say "KING-dum-IN-o" as I think Alison was suggesting above. Even though that is the worst sounding of them all.

I'm just going to call it "Domino Kingdom" in my house.

Based on the spinoff game "Queendomino" coming out. I'm going with King-domino for consistent pronunciation.

@ffroom: Unless the word "queendom" is meant to be some kind of political commentary on the word "kingdom".

You're probably right, but I still think that Kingdomino was meant to be a portmanteau of "kindom" and "domino", not "king" and "domino". But once they ended up with "Kingdomino", it was just someone trying to take the cleverness one step further and call the sequel, "Queendomino".

But yes, they're pretty much forcing us to call it King Domino, now that there's a Queen Domino. It's probably a fair bet that they say King Domino around the office.

I certainly agree that it's a portmanteau of "kingdom" and "domino", but that doesn't automatically make 'kingdom' the dominant factor in pronunciation when combined. 'Kingdom-ee-no' flows like a sack of bricks compared to 'king-domino'.
