The revised rulebook is now available!

http://www.werepenguin.net/rage/rules/revised.html

The revised rules book largely reorganizes existing information,
incorporates rulings from the FAQ, and resolves conflicts between
existing rulings. The old rules book was basically like the junk drawer in the kitchen. We'd been stuffing rules in it for the last ten years and never cleaned and organized the damn thing so we could actually find the ball of twine when we needed it. (or how the heck gift canceling worked in this case)

There is however, one major change. Cleaned up timing! For both
combat and sept cards!

I hear half of you cheering and half of you screaming. Relax. The
revised rules are for PLAYTESTING. The revised timing can be
adjusted, but first give it a try.
The relevant sections on Open vs Closed play.
http://www.werepenguin.net/rage/rules/revised.html#OpenPlay

Open play is the traditional "first in first out" slapfest you're used
to, and describes the majority of plays. Closed play periods
basically define when specific items occur (such as regen, drawing
cards, etc) that cannot be interupted by other card effects.

This basically resolves the old conflict of "I slap down a sneak
attack""But I was going to play an Odor of Skunk!" mess where you had
two effects simultaenously resolving that can't both resolve.

Give it a read through and go try it out!

There are also some minor tweaks to the following:
# The turn summary has been written as 'quick rules', detailed rules should largely be found under card type descriptions.
# Allegiance and Keywords have received proper treatment. Keywords even get their own website.
# No Sept cards may be duplicated on a given Character. So, no piles of Medicine Bags!
# The combat round has been tweaked to make it clearer when you play certain combat events and Gifts and when withdrawing occurs.

We used to have a hard time with that...two people wanting to play Fang Necklace, or other effects or unique equipment simultaneously. We usually did a coin-flip to resolve such issues, but that was not exactly "elegant".

Imagine my confusion when I read this post with fatigue-laden eyes, having linked to it from the main page, believing this to be about the other Rage card game. Combat? "Sept card"? Odor of Skunk?!

On the positive side, you've gotten me interested enough to flag the rules for later reading when consciousness prevails.

And you haven't even hit the crazy card names like Giant Dogs Besiege City!

Should you be inclined to pick up game once you're perused the rules, there's a regular "learn to play" Rage game on the Gatling Engine friday night at 8PM server time. ("server time" is US Central) You can grab the engine at http://www.ccgworkshop.com
