Considering how unlikely it is for any given game to get into the top 10 - that's something that seems to require something of a Perfect Storm, and Scythe managed it, it seems unlikely that TM would beat Scythe on the BGG rankings.
But we'll see. And I'm looking forward to picking up TM at some point from my FLGS, the reviews I've seen of it make it sound excellent, even if the solo mode doesn't come across as much to my taste as Scythe's is.
(Oh that'll be fun. If two games with the TM acronym wind up in the top 10...)
What is meant by "end up?" By when? The end of the year? By 2018? By 2030?
Scythe is already quite a bit higher. However, I suspect that has a lot to do with the massive hype machine and tens of thousands of copies in the wild. On the other hand, TM had no giant year hype fest leading up to its release, and there is a fraction of the number of copies floating around out there.
I also agree with others' assessments that Scythe has a big flash (the hype, the components) but is comparatively more shallow than the less flashy but much deeper TM. This will lead to the quick rise and then gradual fall of Scythe, and a slower rise but more stable burn of TM. Give it another year, and they'll have switched places.
