So the thing I really hate about the Big Box version of Carcassonne is that instead of coming with the nice baggy that usually comes with one of the expansions, it comes with the awkward tower contraption for holding the tiles and drawing.

Does anyone know a good place to get a nice bag for this game? Preferably a plain black or dark blue one?

You can always buy a bottle of Crown Royal. You get a decent bag, and something to drown your sorrows when you have a poor game.

gamesurplus.com carries both a basic and deluxe cloth bag under their accessories. I've bought both. The basic, as I recall (I gave that one away a long time ago to a friend who wanted it for his Carc game), was like the simple white cloth bag that comes with Tigris & Euphrates. The deluxe seems to use nicer materials, comes in attractive colors, and has a flat bottom that lets the bag somewhat stand up on its own.

Ikea also sells quite pleasant/usable bags.

I use a soft cloth bag that a pair of my dress shoes came in and got a second bag from a pair of Nike shoes I ordered on-line that I gave to a buddy, he also has the big box set and was in your same boat.

Is a Crown Royal bag really big enough to hold all the tiles?

Far more than big enough. It could hold nearly twice as many tiles.

Or, you can just get the bag (and personalize it to boot!)

Spot the newbie in this picture... I just got the meeple Big Box last week, and I thought the tile tower was pretty cool. I'd never played it before, so I know nothing of this "bag" of which you speak. blush

I occurs that I was just playing with one other person, so having the tower off to one side was easy. Maybe with more players it becomes less manageable?

Wow. The personalization is nice and all, but $10 for one bag? On eBay you can buy lots of 25 Crown Royal bags for less than $10. There's an auction right now, less than three hours from close, that's 25 bags and presently at 5 dollars (US).
