A big name designer with two beloved games under his belt (Avalon and The Resistance). Plenty of demos at GenCon and other conventions so people have had plenty of opportunity to play it. Now it's live on Kickstarter. Why is there little buzz around this game? Am I missing something?

It's likely because this is DonE's first game he's actually published, and so isn't used to using BGG to create hype. But I've played the game a few times and it's pretty good! Definitely a fun 4-8 player negotiation party game that has way more interaction than, say, Bohnanza.

Can you please explain where/why there is backstabbing and betrayal? I am trying to figure it out.

In a 4 player game both "teams" would share enemies so they would automatically be forced to work together right?

In a 5 player game you would have to be allied with the people accross from you how do you choose? Wouldn't the first two people to have enough components just agree to launch. Where does the negotiation come in?

there's no set team.

so, you can change your alliance at any time if another player's resources seem more useful to you.

Shipping is ludicrous. $35 for the game plus $35 shipping makes it $70 (AUD$95).

That's is for every country outside the US ($7) and Canada ($11).

I'm also quite surprised by the lack of buzz. The Resistance is one of my favorite games, and I'm sure the same is true for a lot of people. Can't wait to try out his new creation!

I'm NOT surprised at all that this KS has little to no buzz.

#1 It's the holidays which can be a very difficult window for KS projects.
#2 Paying exorbitant shipping costs for a game that many might be assuming that they can just wait for a retail copy.
#3 No preview videos showing ACTUAL game play. All you're offering is a staged video of people overacting pretending to play the game?

The fairly vague description of the game does sound interesting but I'm done gambling on KS. I've learned to expect certain things from a creator before I put my $$ on the line. I suspect that it will reach it's funding goal but it may end up more valuable as a case lesson?

Shipping costs have come down a lot, and there's a video on YouTube of a full playthrough recorded from a live stream... it looks really fun, some interesting gameplay twists. It's had a really rocky KickStarter start but he seems to be putting in an honest attempt to pull it back. I think it's done enough to convince me at least.

Not finding that YouTube play through? I looked before my original post because I was genuinely interested in the game and after a follow up search I'm still have found zilch!

No Kickstarter exclusives? Why back it?

I know a lot of people hate exclusives, but at this point, if a game is good, there's a second Kickstarter with improvements of some kind, or else you get it at "retail" for cheaper.

Maybe this is one of those 1 in 100 games where the initial Kickstarter represents the best value, but I don't like those odds.

Maybe because you like the project and want to see it happen?
Not everyone is in it for the exclusives.

Rote response doesn't apply. The project is funded, which is the state in which my comment was made.

No, not everyone is in it for the exclusives, nor should they be. I've certainly backed plenty of projects because I wanted to see them happen.

However, my own rote response is: the majority of board game Kickstarters are truly pre-orders. This argument has been played out ad nauseam.

I get where you're coming from. I totally agree that many companies and board game publishers in particular use KS as a way to bring a fully designed product to the market. I've backed my fair share of 'pre-orders'.

That being said, I completely disagree with you on this one. I think Don poured his heart into this game and, as he himself said, this campaign and the pledged amount are what will help him turn Orange Machine Games into
a reality.

I guess I'm just not as jaded about KS (yet?).

Ha! Yeah, I guess I'm more jaded.

But again, I want to reiterate that everything I said was in the context of the project being funded. When I came to the project, I saw no particular reason to back it. And mark my words...if the game is actually good or great, we'll see another KS, or a retail release, with fixes and likely better production values.

I do agree that this particular KS is not an egregious pre-order.
