My group found it fun to play with funded events cards. But with the difficulty of the game at the easier side, it's very common to get stuck at 0 funding level and not using those cards. So we decided to use epidemic cards to increase difficulty while keeping a minimum number of funded event cards.

So we started at funding level 4 and 5 epidemic cards. When we win, we used the next row for the next game. If we lost, we used the previous row for the next game.

funding level 10, 5 epidemic cards
funding level 8, 5 epidemic cards
funding level 6, 5 epidemic cards
funding level 4, 5 epidemic cards
funding level 2, 5 epidemic cards
funding level 7, 6 epidemic cards
funding level 5, 6 epidemic cards
funding level 3, 6 epidemic cards
funding level 7, 7 epidemic cards
funding level 5, 7 epidemic cards
funding level 3, 7 epidemic cards
funding level 5, 8 epidemic cards
funding level 2, 8 epidemic cards*
funding level 3, 9 epidemic cards*

These numbers were chosen to linearly decrease the "average number of player cards between epidemic cards". Each steps should reduce the average by close to 0.4 as in the original rule with 5 epidemic cards. These numbers are calculated using a 4-characters game, but the numbers shouldn't be far off with other player counts. We did not win the game with funding level 5 and 8 epidemic cards, so we did not try the two rows with * notations.

Overall, we had a blast. Now we can't wait for season 2.

End game spoiler:
Spoiler (click to reveal)

We scored 879 in the end with a 12-4 record (lost early April, both October, early December). At least a third of the games were won or lost on the last turn. There were a lot of discussion near end of every game to minimize the number of turns required to win.
