If you're already following 2nd ed. then no, I would suggest skipping it. It IS a good game, a great game even. But you currently have an updated streamlined edition of the game.
Also there's a lot of complicated, counter-intuitive rules interactions in 1st edition. Because of this, I hesitate to even recommend 1st edition for casual board game style nights. 1st edition thrived as a great competitive tournament game for those who really knew it, and studied it, and reveled in it it, because there was a lot there to revel in. But if you have 2nd, I don't think there's really anything there for you.
