Has anyone thought of any solitaire variants for this game? It seems like it could have some fun variants.

Go to popcap.com and play Alchemy? That might work actually. Create a grid (I think theirs is 7x7). Place a random tile in the middle. You now need to build up and down from that tile. If you complete a row or column, you remove it from the board. If you draw a piece you cannot or do not want to use, discard it and increment the death counter (whatever) by 1. If the counter gets to 3, you lose. Every time you lay down a piece, subtract one from the counter. If you clear a row, reset the counter to 0.

In the video game you win when every square in the grid has had a row or column removed from it. For a board game version (since marking the squares would be a pain), maybe play until a certain number of tiles have been taken off by completing rows. Maybe equal to the number of squares on the board (49 for the 7x7).

You should go to popcap and play the free Java version of the game though. It's free, and you get a title at the end depending on how well you do. Entertainingly/distressingly, one of these titles is "Grand Wizard" shake.
