I didn't realize there was an alternate map for Hansa. I just finished
a game using the Changing Winds variant, and thinking over the game I
have to say it took the wind out of my sails, even though I won with a
score of 64-44-39.
Our game lasted 8 rounds. Of the 9 cities on the board, I only visited
4 of them on purpose, and 3 more only because the boat started there...
Reval x2 (both start of turn)
Copenhagen x4 (1 start)
Kalmar x7 (1 start)
Stockholm x1 (start)
Lubeck x3 (all start of turn)
Toensberg and Aalborg were visited a TOTAL of once each the whole game.
I really felt like the entire game was played in the small circuit
between Riga, Kalmar, Copenhagen, and Danzig. As a result, rather than
move around more, the refill action was taken more often leading to a faster game.
I don't know exactly how much of this was due to it being a 3p game -
I'm sure with 4 players more of the board would be used - and how much
was due to the available paths. I'm pretty sure the board is at fault
We also played with the endgame bonus scoring:
2vp for tallest stack of Market Booths
3vp for triggering the game end
4vp for having Market Booths in the most cities
5vp for most single barrels sold.
I got 3 of the 4, missing only the "widespread booths" one.
Has anyone else formed an opinion on the Changing Winds variant? What
do you think of it?
