Welcome to StarCraft.

Three years have passed since the being called the Queen of Blades - once known as the talented Terran psychic, Sarah Kerrigan – became the sole controlling mind behind the ravenous race of xenomorphs called the Zerg. By balancing guile with brute force, the infested Kerrigan all but demolished the forces that once stood against her: the United Earth Directorate, the Terran Dominion, and her most deadly foes, the Protoss. Her lengthy fight weakened the Zerg broods however, and her control is not as absolute as she believes…

On the broken Protoss world of Aiur, a renegade Zerg cerebrate has made a bid for independence. This young hivemind has come into possession of a powerful psi-crystal long ago forgotten by the ancient predecessor race, the Xel-Naga. With this gem, the cerebrate has managed to break free of Kerrigan’s psionic grip and is beginning to amass its own loyal brood.

Still weakened and surrounded by a rag-tag collection of hateful enemies, Kerrigan recognizes it would be foolish to waste precious resources in solving the problem directly and so instead decides to use her time-honored approach of manipulation to accomplish her goal.

Through infested Terran spies, she leaks the discovery of the powerful psi-crystal to her enemies: both the Protoss survivors on the shadowy planet of Shakuras, and the Terran New Dominion on Korhal. Each of these foes predictably take the bait, each knowing that possession of this relic would be a great weapon against Kerrigan’s forces.

It is Kerrigan’s hope that the Renegade Zerg will fend off the attack by the Terrans and Protoss, but in so doing be weakened enough for her to mop up when the dust settles and claim the crystal for herself.

The stage is set. Only time will tell if the Queen of Blades’ gambit pays off once again.

******************************************************

This is a three team werewolf game designed for up to 30 players. We’re talking Big Game Hunters here people.

TEAMS
Each player will belong to one of the three races (teams): Zerg, Terran, and Protoss.

The Terrans and the Zerg will play as two opposing villages, while the severely outnumbered Protoss will be the wolves. There will be roughly a 3:2:1 ratio of Zerg:Terranrotoss, depending on the number of players.

***For those not familiar with the Starcraft universe: Terran = Human, Zerg = Aliens from “Alien,” and Protoss are sort of a less ugly, more psionic version of Predators from “Predator.”

OBJECTIVES
The Zerg win the game by outnumbering the Terrans when the Protoss wolves are all dead. (The Zerg win against the Terrans in the case of a tie.)

The Terrans win the game EITHER by outnumbering the Zerg when the Protoss wolves are dead OR by outnumbering the remaining Protoss when all Zerg Overlords are destroyed. (Terrans lose ties in both cases.)

The Protoss win the game if they destroy all Zerg Overlords and are at least at parity with the remaining Terrans.

Thus the game ends when either all Protoss wolves are dead or when all Zerg Overlords are dead.

ROLES (aka: Units)
ZERG
*Note, not all of these units are guaranteed to be in the game.

Overlord

-The overlords are a mason group of Zerg players that represent the collective hive mind of the renegade cerebrate. At the beginning of the game they will be allotted a certain number of build points with which to design the make up of their team. They may elect for a few powerful units or a more balanced approach.
-Detectors: They also combine each night for a collective seer view. This view may be either Zerg/Not Zerg, Terran/Not Terran, or Protoss/Not Protoss.
-Telepathic: Instead of a seer view, the Overlord group may send an anonymous message to one player during the night. No private response will be allowed.

Zergling

-Weak alone: A zergling vote is valued at 0.5.
-Strength in numbers: If 3+ zerglings vote on the same target, their votes are revalued to the standard “1” and in addition, a hidden +1 vote will be added to that target at the final tally.

Hydralisk

-Protect the Cerebrate: Each hydralisk has the martyr ability.

Hunter Killer

-Perfected Deathdealer: These elite hydralisks are have the vigilante ability. When lynched or night killed, they may select any target to kill also.

Ultralisk

-Behemoth: These gigantic beasts can trample over enemy infantry and gore enemies by the dozens. In addition to the normal vote, the Ultralisk may place two anonymous votes that will not show up until dusk.
-Armored Carapace: The Ultralisk is tough and can survive one lynch.

Guardian

Vigilant: These long range, air borne monstrosities can keep potential attackers at bay. They have the bodyguard ability.

Queen

-Terran infestation: Each night may target a player for infestation. If the target is a non-mechanical Terran unit, that player will be infected. The Queen will not know if her infestation was successful, but the Overlords will be notified. The Overlords may use the infested Terrans as suicide bombers, targeting a player for death at night. Both the target and the infected Terran will die.
Ensnare: Instead of using Terran Infestation, the queen may select three players as a night action. Those three targets have a 50% chance of having their vote values halved the next day.

Defiler

Dark Swarm: Every night, the Defiler may choose a player to be invulnerable to lynch the following day. This ability activation will not be made public. If the target is the leading vote getter, the second-place vote getter will be lynched instead.
Plague: Instead of using Dark Swarm at night, the Defiler may target one player with Plague. Plague has a 17% chance of killing the target each night that they have it. There is a 17% chance each night that the plague will go away, otherwise it will continue to affect the target. (If a Medic is still alive, a terran unit has an 83% chance of getting rid of the plague instead.)

TERRANS

Marine Commander (Max: 1)

-In Charge: The Commander starts out knowing the players on his team, but he does not know which unit each player is.
-Commlink: The Commander may make an anonymous PM once per night to any player. No private response is allowed.
-Firebat training: The Commander is equipped with twin-linked flamethrowers and extra armor, making him a fearsome opponent in battle. His votes are naturally valued at 1.5.
Marine

-Stimpack: Each Marine battlesuit comes equipped with an auto-injection mechanism containing a potent (and dangerous) cocktail of drugs designed to increase focus, dexterity, strength, and pain tolerance. The effects are shortlasting and can do severe damage to the marine’s nervous system if not immediately treated. If activated privately during the day, the Marine’s vote value increases from 1 to 1.5. The effects wear off at dusk and the Marine will be at 0.5 vote value the following day. If a Medic is still alive on the Terran team, the Marine will recover on the following night, otherwise the penalty is permanent.

Medic

-Healer: So long as a Medic is still alive, Marines can recover from Stimpack use.
-“Show me where it hurts”: Medics have the bodyguard ability and can anonymously remove a vote from any player once per day.
-Non-combatant: Medics can vote, but it is valued at 0.1.

Ghost (Max: 1)

-Tag: Each night, the Ghost may “tag” a target player. (Tagged players may not be “untagged.”)
-Nuclear launch: If the ghost wishes, they may eschew tagging someone and instead “bring down the thunder.” At dawn a public announcement will be made, along with a list of all tagged players. If the ghost is still alive after dusk, all tagged players will be killed. This is a one-shot ability, and ignores “Tough” and “Invulnerable” status.
-Lockdown: Instead of tagging, the Ghost may target a player. That player’s vote(s) will not count and they will temporarily lose all abilities on the following day and night. The target will not know that they are locked down.

Siege Tank (Max: 2) (Mechanical)

-Indiscriminate Justice: The blast from a siege tank can wreck nearly any target, and can affect multiple targets. The Siege Tank has one public vote and two hidden votes each day that will not show up until dusk.
-Thick Plating: It takes a lot to dent a siege tank. The siege tank is tough.

Science Vessel (Max: 1) (Mechanical)

-Blinded them with Science!: Each night may use one of the abilities listed below.
-Energy signature scan: A seer view for Protoss/Not Protoss
-Heat signature scan: A seer view for Zerg/Not Zerg
-Energy Shield: Makes one target “tough.” May not be used on self. May not be used on the same target twice.
-Irradiate: Select target. If zerg, it has one day to live as a “carrier.” If a carrier votes at any time on another Zerg player, that Zerg player becomes a carrier the following day. This is a one-time ability.

PROTOSS

High Templar (Max: 1)

-Wolf A member of the revered warrior priest caste amongst the Protoss race, this noble leader is here to recover the crystal for the good of his race, or, at the very least, destroy it so that the hated Zerg cannot benefit from its power.
-Psionic Storm: Once per game, the High Templar can unleash a psionic barrage, targeting up to three targets. This is a public power (it will reveal the High Templar) and each target has a 17% chance of surviving. Invulnerable and Tough targets have a 66% chance of surviving.

Zealot

-Wolf: “Normal” footsoldiers for the Protoss. They are fanatically aligned against the Zerg infestation of their homeworld and distain the Terran Dominion. They are perfectly willing to give their lives for the glory of Aiur!

Dark Templar (Max: 1)

-Sorcerer: An outcast from normal Protoss society, but a true enemy of the zerg, the dark templar will act alone and without knowledge of who his allies are. He gets a full role reveal view each night.
-Telepath: Instead of a seer view, the Dark Templar may send an anonymous message to one player at night. No private response is allowed.

EDIT: Because the game will be played with less than 30 players, there will no longer be a guarantee that every unit from the Terran and Protoss role list will be in the game.

EDIT: Defiler and Queen powers have been updated for creature value purposes.

EDIT: Overlords and Dark Templar have been given the Telepath ability.

Re: WW: Starcraft (Three team carnage, late summer start)
Starting date and Lynch time are flexible, but tentatively set at 7:00pm BGG. Night Orders due at midnight BGG. Tentative start date somewhere in late July.

Minimum number of players is 24, but I'm setting my hopes high by preferring 30. Keeping a nice 3:2:1 ratio between the races is preferable.

***************************
Q&A:

Q: What is the actual start date?
A: Right now, it's July 23rd.

Q: What's the lynch/night order time?
A: 7:00pm/1:00am

Q: What info is revealed at lynch/night kill?
A: Full role reveal on both.

Q: Does "Tough" allow someone to survive a nightkill as well as lynch?
A: Yes.

Q: Are their restrictions on the Bodyguard ability?
A: Yes, Bodyguards may not protect themselves and may not protect the same target two nights in a row.

Q: Are Defilers similarly limited?
A: No, Defilers' Dark Swarm ability can be used on themselves, as well as on the same target on consecutive days.

Q: If a Science Vessel targets a Zerg N1, when does the Zerg die?
A: Dusk of Day 2.

Q: What roles are definitely in the game?
A: Overlords, Zealots, and Marines.

Q: Does an irradiated zerg know that they are irradiated? Does a non-Zerg know they have been targeted?
A: No and no.

Q: If an irradiated zerg voted and unvoted on all remaining players in one day, would that spell doom for the entire Zerg race?
A: Yes. Unvoting does not stop the irradiation.

Q: Invulnerable players are only safe from lynch, or from nightkill and other powers as well?
A: Unless otherwise noted, (such as in Psi-Storm), Invulnerable only protects from lynch.

Q: Do all Overlords need to be alive to get a seer view?
A: No. Just one.

Q: Is there any difference between a Siege Tanks' extra votes and an Ultralisk's?
A: No.

Q: Can a ghost tag himself?
A: Yes.

Q: If a Terran is infested, do the Overlords learn their identity?
A: No. They are just told that they have an infested Terran at their disposal.

Q: How frequently can Stimpack be used?
A: Stimpack can only be used when not being penalized by it's effects. If used on Day 1, it cannot be used on Day 2. If a medic is around at the end of Day 2, recovery is possible, and the Marine can use Stimpack again on Day 3.

Q: What's the timing on Lockdown?
A: If used on Night 1, it would block Night 1 and Day 2 abilities and vote.

Q: How long does the Science Vessel's Energy Shield last? Does it protect against infested terrans?
A: Lasts the entire game. But cannot be used more than once on one person. It does not protect against infested terrans.

Q: What happens if an infested terran is asked to target itself?
A: It dies without taking anyone else with it.

Re: WW: Starcraft (Three team carnage, late summer start)
Adjutant online. Greetings, Magistrate. Captain R.J. Phelan of the Science Vessel Lupus has reported a threat to your colony: a large armada of Zerg Overlords approaching at maximum velocity. They are being followed by a fleet of Protoss scouts, and appear to be in conflict. Estimates that this conflict will involve this colony in some fashion are currently at 92.4%.

Captain Phelan recommends an immediate increase in mining activities, and advises you to prepare your colony for war.

In an unrelated note, the missiles in our nuclear silos are approaching the end of their natural life span. Firing them at the Zerg or Protoss fleets may prove an amusing diversion.

Transmission ends.

MISSION OBJECTIVES
- Sign up for this game via Cassandra.
- Convince rjphelan to run a later lynch than 6:00 PM, as I will be forced to drop the game if that turns out to be the final lynch time.
- Drop the hammer and dispense some indiscriminate justice.
- Launch at least one nuclear missile.

Is it even possible to play starcraft online anymore? If I could dig up my old CDs and reinstall it and find the code key (or whatever) does anybody want to play some WW starcraft games?

Nyriv (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/nyriv, also on BSW) has a group of friends with whom he plays occasionally. They've invited me into their games on occasion. They use Ventrilo, and it's a ton of fun.

To be around for lynch (almost) every day: 9. To be around for lynch at least *some* of the time: 7. Generally I don't sign up for anything unless it's 9 or later, but for games of excessive coolness (which WW:Starcraft qualifies), I'll stretch it to 7 and see if I can grab a greater percentage of early shifts at work.
