Thinking of backing the kickstarter. How much luck would you say is in the game? I know that the game has dice. Do their outcomes greatly swing the game?

Thanks!

This game has been out for a couple of years. Have you checked out some of the online reviewers for opinions? Those opinions are mixed for sure.

I would say the game is 75% skill and planning and 25% luck. The dice really just change the type of resource you get in the game, they dont really change how much you get. And there are ways to exchange resources for different types. I have had the game since gencon 2015 and it is a regular favorite among my play group. The expansion really seems to be providing more diversity to the game. I would really suggest it.

Probably less than most card-driven games, as you do not dump your hand at the end of your turn. Meaning even if temporarily unable to accomplish an encounter, you can retain the helpful cards in your hand, and add to them. (as opposed to discarding all)

Your choice in the amount of risk you are willing to take (particularly with damage cards in your deck) is much more responsible for your success than luck of the draw.

I guess I had more concern about the dice. I am usually less bothered by card luck for some reason.

Then you have little to fear. The dice are an extremely inconsequential aspect of this game, and their impact mitigated by the asteroid encounter's trade ability

Old thread, but I think I have a relevant comment. You roll a die often to receive rewards for your taking a planet, etc. The list goes from 1 to 10. First you roll the die and then add +1 to the result for each Discovery you have conquered.

In my first plays I seem to roll a whole lot of 1's and 2's. That really sucks, because the amount of stuff you get for those low levels is a lot less than the stuff you get for a 5 or 6.

If you have a 1v1 game and for your first couple of reward rolls you only get a 1 or 2 and your opponent got a 5 or 6 each time, then it is gonna be hard for you to catch up with all the upgrades they are doing while you watch.

I've thought about fixing this by ignoring the bottom two. The list would be 3-10. The difference between 3-6 at the beginning isn't game breaking.

It is funny that you responded to this just now. Yesterday I finally picked up the manual to read and noticed a lot of dice being chucked around to determine things. I put it down for now and will reconsider playing it again in the future.

Well, I figured it was an answer for any future onlookers. Glad timing worked out. I just got the game and have been testing it out in a lot of ways. I will post a huge review within a couple weeks. It's several pages so far.
