There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary: Those who do, and those who don't.

Well, not me.

Aishat Maksudova, a Russian grandmother, was tending to her livestock when a wolf attacked her village of Novo Biryuzyak, Dagestan. So she cooly axed it in the head.

"[I was] not even frightened. With an open mouth, the wolf suddenly jumped on me. [It] clawed into my leg and when I raised my arm up the wolf was just holding my hand; trying to claw my hand. I wanted to throttle the wolf to death."

But she was forced to rely on her trusty axe when she was unable to free her hand from the wolf's vice-like jaws.

"So I just left my hand, and the wolf was just clawing into it, pulling on it, pulling away like this," she explained. "And then I took the axe and hit him on the head."

I expected something in the In US, 6 men carry tree; in Russia, tree carry 6 men. But that doesn't work.

So maybe it should be...

In US, tree rides on 6 men... in Russia, 6 men ride woman. But, alas, that doesn't work either. And the... US men struggle with big wood; in Russia, woman handle big wood with ease - well, that isn't an option either.

So in the end there simply isn't a good caption that works. So maybe just the picture is the best approach.

As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky, the three travellers, men of Willowdale, emerge from the forest's shadow. Fording the river, they turn south, journeying into the dark and forbidding lands of The Necromancer...

Back about 1978 or so, I was on a camping trip with my Boy Scout troop and my friend Jimmy and I were busy chopping and cleaning up firewood for the evening cooking fire. A toad with a death wish comes hopping into the tool area and my friend decides to risk losing a corner off of his Cut-n-Chop card. The toad parks itself atop a log about 10 feet away and that is Jimmy's cue. He hurls the hatchet that he was using, tomahawk style, and miraculously manages to neatly slice that toad in half right along his longitudinal axis. Needless to say, a raucous celebration immediately ensued and Jimmy did not lose a corner off of his card...instead, it was confiscated and he got a good lecture on tool safety. He eventually re-earned his Cut-n-Chop card and was known as "Sir James, the Toad Slayer" for the rest of his Scouting days. Good old Troop 34 had a hero.

I work at a middle school, so I get Axed on a fairly regular basis.

Those kids have to realize that that nasty, perfumed deodorant spray is no substitute for a straight-up shower.
