I just commenced a new campaign. This one is called "Campaign 2" in the rules. I have decided to use the 'Prezcon Tournament House Rules with some clarifications and a victory condition suggestion.

This is a link to the current living rules at Wothington Publishing. There is an errata clarifying ZOC and Combat (11.2). The errata is on page 5, please take a look at it.

http://worthingtonpublishing.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/....p

PREZCON TOURNAMENT HOUSE RULES:

1) Just arriving reinforcements, eliminated replacement units may not move by strategic movement.

2) Just replaced (at a maximum of 1SP) eliminated replacement arrives on the following month, or thereafter. Place it on the turn track.

3) British may never use Strategic Movement on the first turn of a Campaign game. (Rommel Bonus)

4) If hits of 5's are rolled against the German attacker, he can choose to reduce either German infantry and/or Italian armor before Italian infantry.

Clarification:

When attacking a unit in rough terrain, air and leader units are -1 die.

Reinforcement air unit arrives in play after the Malta box die roll.

Remember, an enemy block is NOT in supply simply by occupying Alexandria or El Agheila!

Suggestion:

Prior to start, players should agree on the conditions for a British victory, it is realistic that the British must control 4 of 5 fortified cities by the end of the campaign.

Notes:

The house rules reduce the speed of arriving reinforcements and replacements. In addition, during turn sequence #3 or #6, a replacement(s) is paid for at a 1SP limit and placed at the turn track on the following month. When the replacement arrives next turn, more steps may be added to the unit. Sometimes players will not have enough RP to bring in a replacement, or even a reinforcement, so the unit is them moved to the next month, per Rule 10, Reinforcements and Replacements.

Why delay replacements one turn
? The British can no longer flood the board with just replaced units.

Why allow the German attacker to choose to reduce German or Italian armor before Italian infantry? Italian armor is too expensive to replace or add steps to. The German infantry help keep the armor in play. Note: German infantry do not arrive until 1942.

Why can't the British use strategic movement on the first turn of a campaign game(Rommel Bonus)? The British cannot flood Cyrenaica Libya with an overwhelming number of units.

January 1942
Weather: Clear
Malta Air Commits (Ger/Brit): 2/1
RP: 10/12 (Ger/Brit)

The German surrounds 1st Arm, cutting it off from supply. Other units move
in such a way as to be able to assault Benghazi on the following turn. The units designated for the upcoming assault will be the powerful and resilient trio of two Italian armor and 90th light plus Rommel.

There's no way 1st Armor can be saved so it attacks out of supply. Since the British can't move strategically on their first move, they decide to
send two units westward to defend El Gubba and in the rough terrain block the coast road. Other units shuttled to the west along the coast road. In addition the Brits build a 1SP infantry which will arrive in February.
Note that unit will not be capable of moving strategically on it's first turn. The 1st armor, out of supply was eliminated. That will cost the British 12 RP to replace to full strength or one current turn RP capacity. In addition, it will take 2 or up to three turns for it to return to combat.

AXIS TASK FORCES DEFINED
The following is MY nomenclature for specific attack task forces. These task forces are combined in such a way as to deliver the maximum hitting power while minimizing damage by off-setting (or spreading around) hits taken in combat. It will cost less RP to rebuild and if these combos (at full strength) will almost always save units from elimination.

HAMMER- Two Panzer units- need '6,s' to hit. When attacking it will be impossible to destroy either unit.

TRIO- Two Italian armor plus a 4SP German infantry, or 2 German infantry and 1 Italian armor. The German infantry will take the hits preserving expensive RP to rebuild armor.

DUO-
One Italian armor plus one German infantry. The infantry will take the hits first, thus preserving RP. Note the German player will eventually have two or even three Duo task forces in play.

ORC- Three Italian infantry. If properly coordinated, it will be impossible to lose a unit in combat. This is a good vanguard task force that after attacking, should be shielded by stronger friendly units.

Supporting air units and a leader should be attached to a task force based on the priority of the turn plan of combat.

The British priority should be to eliminate or degrade key units that comprise these task forces so as to FORCE the German to spend extra RP to replace rebuild them.

German February 1942
Weather: Clear
Malta Air Commits: 2/1 (Ger/Brit)
RP: 12/12 (Ger/Brit)
Units in Play: 11/8 (Ger/Brit)
Sit Rep: The Brits hold Benghazi and El Gubba. Other British forces are proceeding westward to defend Tobruck.

1)A TRIO w/Rommel attack and destroy the Benghazi garrison, but the German infantry suffers one hit.

2)A HAMMER attacks a (I was infantry) Brit armor in rough adjacent to and SE of El Gubba. Hammer takes 1 hit and armor suffers 2 hits.

3)Two Italian divisions cut off the two British units defending El Gubba, one on the coast road, one just east of Mechili.

4) An ORC line takes up positions in the rough one hex distance from the British line at at El Gubba.

5) At the moment it will cost the Germans 3 RP to rebuild to full strength the TRIO and HAMMER task forces.

BRITISH FEBRUARY -1942
Weather: Clear
Malta Air Commits: 2/1 (Ger/Brit)
RP: 12/12 (Ger/Brit)
Effective Units in Play: 11/7 (Ger/Brit)
Eliminated Pool: 1 armor, 4 infantry.
Arriving Replacements (no Strats): 1SP unit at Alexandria- combat ineffective.
Eliminated Replaced Units, arriving next month: 1 infantry
Sit Rep: There are TWO Brit armor out of supply defending El Gubba! These units did slow down the German progress by defending the El Gubba line, but at a minimum it will cost 4RP to destroy the lone Italian infantry blocking the coast road at Derna (west) of El Gubba and retrograde the armor to the newly forming Tobruck line. This leaves the Brits with only 8RP. Excluding the arriving replacement, the Brits have 7 combat effective units. In addition it will certainly spell elimination for that relieving Brit infantry unit, or worse if they need an extra infantry unit to relive the pocket. Pushing armored forward may or may not have been a wise gamble. (To be continued.)

1) One British infantry with an air unit attacked the Italian infantry at Derna and scored only two hits.
2) Another British infantry advanced to attack the same Italian unit and scored zero hits!
3) One out of supply armor unit escaped the pocket and redeployed to Tobruck.
4) Finally the out of supply armor unit advanced west and with three dice attacked and destroyed the Italians.
5) This fiasco cost the British 7 RP.
6) Three British infantry occupied Bardia, El Adem and Acroma to cover Tobruck.
7) The just arrived 1SP British infantry at Alexandria could not move due to lack of RP.

Bad luck for British rolls for battle of Derna. It is suggested NOT to push armor forward to El Gubba so early in the campaign!

MARCH- 1942
The beginning of march 1942. The weather is clear.

The German will have 10 RP, look at the Malta box.

Known armor have red cubes markers.

Damaged infantry are yellow.

1SP arriving unit-combat ineffective- has a green cube.

The British units near Derna may be in a pickle.

GERMAN MARCH-1942
Weather: Clear
Malta Air Commits: 2/1 (Ger/Brit)
RP: 10/12 (Ger/Brit)
Effective Units in Play: 10/7 (Ger/Brit)
Eliminated Pool:1 IT inf
Arriving Replacements (no Strats):N/A
Arriving Reinforcements: N/A

Sit Rep: German will try to reduce the blocking armor near Derna- Tobruck is well defended, I do not wish to expose a panzer, need to screen the southern front.

1) An ORC of 4 inf + Rommel attack a surrounded Brit armor east of Derna- both sides take casualties.

2)The Brit armor is Out of supply.

3) One panzer and a DUO advance 1 hex west of Mechili to screen the ORC task force near Derna.

4) Again, it looks like the Brit armor will retrograde to Tobruck. The Brits have delayed the German advance by two turns!

BRITISH MARCH-1942
Weather: Clear
Malta Air Commits: 2/1 (Ger/Brit)
RP: 10/12 (Ger/Brit)
Effective Units in Play: 9/8 (Ger/Brit)
Eliminated Pool:1 2 inf, 1 armor
Arriving Replacements (no Strats):1 SP inf- delayed until April
Arriving Reinforcements: N/A

1) 2 Brit inf eliminate Italian blocker west of Derna. The 'trapped' Brit armor retrograded towards Tobruck.

2) All units contract to the 'Gazala' line. The Brits have control of the rough terrain and have a very strong defense in-depth around the Fortified cities.

SITUATION APRIL-1942 POOR WEATHER!
The Brits got lucky defending El Gubba, they managed to destroy two Italian infantry divisions and fall back to the Gazala line and consolidate. However, the British wasted a bunch of RP which could have eeb used to rebuild eliminated units, etc.

Poor weather has set in but at least the German has 10 RP. The German will spend 2RP on a 1SP replacement, rebuild the the Italians and the 90th Light. That leaves only 4RP to conduct a risky limited attack on either Acroma or a Brit unit in the rough.

The attack task force can only be either a 'DUO' or specialized Panzer/German infantry. There are not enough RP for an 'ORC' or a 'TRIO' force to attack.

Or the German could use those RP to reorganize- just in case the Brits decide to counter-attack next turn- (which they have the power to do ss. It just does not feel right for the German to attack this turn- the German forces are in disarray and a hasty attack will only cost more precious GERMAN RP on the following turn.

MAY 1942- Reinforcements
The German received a Luftwaffe AFTER the Malta die roll, and placed one Italian 1SP infantry replacement while the Brits will receive a reinforcement and a 1SP replacement on their turn.

The German has added steps to a panzer, and all combat effective units are at full strength. By the way- an effective unit is one capable combat or providing defensive support.

The German has 7 RP to conduct two attacks with Rommel and/or a Luftwaffe unit. Note that units with a green cube cannot move strategically this turn. The British have two combat ineffective units scheduled to arrive. If for some reason they cannot move at least one of those blocks from Alexandria, it will fall back on the turn track one month.

GERMAN MAY-1942
With 7 RP the available the German move a 1SP Italian inf to guard Benghazi
(not in image!), and conduct two attacks.

Note: The red blocks indicate the hex attacked.

1) A 'DUO' with Rommel attacks Acroma and eliminates a Brit infantry, the 90th Light absorbs one hit.

2)The full strength 'HAMMER' and a Luftwaffe which is also -1 die for rough
terrain roll 9 dice and wipe out another British infantry incurring no loses!

Okay- that's as good as it gets! The German is prepared to counter-attack next turn should the British wish to engage German on its' turn!

There's an 'ORC' and a 'TRIO' laying low in the dunes!

Note: There are two Brit units in the Sea near Alexandria. These blocks have green cubes. This is a reminder that just arriving reinforcements and replacement MAY NOT move strategically this turn. Until those units arrive at the front, the Brits have seven COMBAT EFFECTIVE units. This is a Prezcon House Rule. If you like to play using the published rules, the Brits will have 9 effective units this turn!

BRITISH MAY-1942
The BRITS rebuilt armor and some infantry and had 7RP for campaigning.

The reinforcement and replacement head east towards the front.

The Brits attacked a flank Panzer with 2 armor and one infantry plus one air. With 13 dice, they scored a lousy 1 hit! The panzer scored 1 hit on the infantry. Yet the British control the ridge line defensive position.

Reinforcements arrive next turn with the arrival of Monty and another air unit, and the RP jumps to 14.

JUNE 1942-
The German receive two Italian and two German infantry this turn. The panzer took a step loss last turn, just to repair the panzer and get those reinforcements moving will require 7RP- that's too many!

To help the German cause all three Luftwaffe are placed in Malta. The Brit high die roll was a 6!! The Luftwaffe cumulative was 5, so the German have 11 RP to start the turn.

The Brits are on the verge of becoming a formidable army- turn in and turn out. The German could fall back and lose the game or strike in such a way as to force the Brits to spend extra RP. Destroying units is one way, forcing the Brits to move THEN attack is another. I suppose doing one of the above and cutting off supply would be ideal. Fortified cities are expensive to capture but must be considered at this point.

Keep in mind, in this game, the Brits must control 4 of 5 fortified cities by last turn to win.

GERMAN JUNE 1942-
With 11 RP- combat effective units at the front take priority. The German added 1SP to the Panzer and 1SP to the 90th light.

The arriving reinforcements can NOT move because the German will not have enough RP to fight and move- one unit is at El Aghiela other units are placed on the following month turn track.

Since the Afrika Korps was well organized, I thought I'd see how far I could parlay successful combats.

Note: In the image, red cubes indicate battle hexes, the yellow cubes illustrate the British supply path or lack there of.

1) A 'DUO' force with Rommel attacked El Adem, with 8 dice, it destroyed the 4SP British infantry, but the 90th light took 2 hits while the Ariete incurred 1 hit. The problem is 90th light can be attacked from 3 or more hexes!

2) A panzer attacked an adjacent damaged 2SP infantry, and destroyed it while incurring 1SP in damage.

3) The other panzer moved and attacked Bir El Gubbi. With 5 dice it destroyed a 3SP infantry. Note: I really thought there was a 4SP unit there. Lucky, but the Brit unit scored a hit on the Panzer. Now the 90th light is covered but the Panzer is exposed!

4) TRIESTE using the Rommel bonus drove deep behind the front and seized Ft. Maddalena!

5) Two British armor units are out of supply!

6) The bad news is the German may have bit off too much. There are some exposed German units. The good news is the Brits have 6 total combat effective units to work themselves out of this conundrum.

7) I don't know what's going to happen, really.

8) German damages- to repair units to full strength at this point will cost 11 RP- this offensive was expensive.

9) British damages- it will cost 19 or so RP to repair to full strength and get those eliminated units back in play.

10) It looks to me that to save those 2 out of supply armor units, the Brits will have to spend some extra RP.

BRITISH JUNE 1942
Monty is angry! He orders the destruction of Trieste and capture back Acroma in an effort to shorten the German line of supply.

The Brits replaced one Armor to arrive next month.
Combat effective units had steps added.

1)Monty, an air unit, 2 armor and one infantry attacked 4SP Trieste at Ft. Magdalena, all those dice- only 3 hits scored. Trieste survived. The infantry unit took a hit.

2)2 Brit infantry attacked (surprise) Ariete at the hex south of Acroma.
Ariete took two hits while the infantry suffer 2 hits as well.

Military success has a nasty habit of rebounding! As far as casualties- it cost the German RP- 11 last turn and 15 RP this turn- that's 26 RP! It cost the Brit 19 RP last turn only 3 RP this turn for a total of 22 RP.

Trieste is out of supply, soon the Brits will have 4 armor in play!

GERMAN-JULY 1942
The German placed three Luftwaffe in Malta and gained 11 RP, spent 6 RP repairing combat effective units and 5 RP for campaigning.
The German reinforcements could not arrive/move.

1) The 1SP TRIESTE retrograded back to Ft. Magdalena and is back in supply.

2)The Rommel with two panzers and a German infantry assault Tobruck and destroyed the garrison, however both panzers were reduced to 2SP. The German 90th light infantry suffered one hit.

3) Rommel movement bonus helped move an Italian infantry into Tobruck.

4) The British infantry in Acroma were isolated, surrounded and out of supply.

5) The battle of Tobruck cost the German 7 RP in step loses!

BRITISH JULY 1942
The British add 2 steps to an arriving replacement armor unit.
Replace 1 1SP infantry unit which will arrive next month.

1) The Free French in Acroma attempt to break out. With Monty and an air unit the unit attacked the coast road hex east of El Adem. The Free French (and many German foreign Legionaries BTW) fail and are destroyed.

2) Out of the sea of sand came the 2nd and 7th armor, both at full strength
and side by side they attacked the under strength 21 Panzer and with good rolls the 21 panzer was eliminated! To make matters worse, 21 panzer scored zero hits against the British armor.

3) TRIESTE was attacked by an adjacent British infantry and was destroyed! That British unit then moved to seal the rough terrain ridge line.

4) From Alexandria the replacement armor and leader- move bonus- brought the unit up to protect the flank of the engaged armor.

This was the best month thus far for the Brits. Though they have a scarcity of units, they have 3 very powerful armor- well organized for another offensive next month.

GERMAN AUGUST 1942
Berlin called and told Rommel to cool it- no more attacking until proper equipment, and manpower arrive. All Luftwaffe was committed to Malta.
The Brits sent two air units, retaining the rest for some attacks (hopefully). The German gained a very much needed 12RP.

The 21 Panzer and Trieste are still in the eliminated pool. If the German gain another high RP turn, perhaps the 21 panzer could be back on the board in two months, at the earliest.

The 15 panzer was raised by 1 SP to 3SP and ordered to Tobruck. 2SP Ariete was ordered back to Acroma. Finally, the 164th division redeployed to the front from Al Aghiela. The 3rd Para and Littorio are also en-route via the southern flank.
Italian infantry has been redeployed to screen Tobruck and German infantry, and a few more divisions have arrived at the front.

When the wall of Brit armor attacks, at least the German may be in a position to counter-attack. The problem facing the British this coming turn is there are only two infantry at the front. Good news is another armor from Alexandria will be in position to attack. That will give the British 4 full strength armor and 2 infantry to work with.

This month of August was a GERMAN lull.

Built 2 more 1SP infantry- will arrive in September

One 1SP infantry and two reinforcements arrived including the 10th Armor.
The 10th armor with the leader move bonus was able to move and fight.
The reinforcement and replacement move their maximum of 5MP along the coast.

1) 2nd and 7th Armor with air support attacked the Italian infantry at El Adem destroying that unit without incurring hits.

2) 1st Armor with Monty and an air unit attacked, scored 2 hits on the full strength Italian infantry defending the key rough terrain hex to south east of Bir Hacheim. The Italian rolled their 3 dice and missed.

3) If they take no losses in the German turn, the Brits will have 8 effective units to move and fight. In addition two replacement infantry will move from Alexandria en-route to the Front.

LUFTWAFFE AND RP AND BRITISH RP
For all turns except Poor Weather or when the German received a Luftwaffe reinforcement, all German air has been placed in Malta.

As a result of the constant massive air commitment to Malta, the German has received 85 RP, an average of 10.6 RP per turn.

The British have received 90 RP, an average of 11.3.

For September through the December, the Brits will receive 56 RP, however the goal in this game is to capture Benghazi, thus it is reasonable the British will not waste RP in November or December replacing eliminated units.

Due to the shorter 'supply' distance, the German may replace units through November.

Note: If the game victory is for a British or German 'marginal' condition, it would take the Germans two turns to support Tobruck.

If the RP trend continues, from September through December, the German should receive another 42 RP or the Brits will gain a 14 RP advantage.

It all depends on the progress, if the Germans withdraw toward Cyrenaica there could be a turn where they can forgo Malta and blast the Brits. Time will tell.

GERMAN SEPTEMBER-1942
Wife says- get that game finished. We need the table space for Thanksgiving!

German take a chance and place only 2 Luftwaffe in Malta and sure enough the Brit high die roll is '6'.

German RP: 9 German add 1SP to 15 Pz in Tobruck.

Campaigning RP: 1 attack, 5 moves.

German Eliminated Pool: 21pz, Trieste, x2 Italian infantry.

On the rough ridge line there sits the 1st Armor. 164th Infantry, new to the front 3rd Para supported by Littorio, Rommel and a Luftwaffe attack the 1st armor, 8 dice to 4. The German score 3 hits, but so did the 1st armor! But it will cost the the Brits 9 RP to add steps to full strength while it will only cost the German 3RP.

A regiment of Italian infantry (1SP unit) moved into El Adem to screen 90th Light.

An Italian division occupied a rough terrain hex adjacent to 1st Armor, so 1st Armor starts its' turn out of supply, thus it cannot add steps! Putting a unit out of supply adds up, the Brits will have to spend 1 extra RP to move 1st Armor to safety, so really it will cost them 10RP plus that unit will be ineffective for at least one turn.

Like I said before "success has a nasty habit of recoiling against its creators..." Monty is not happy.

Campaigning RP: 6

1) 1st armor retreated behind the front.

2) 50th inf+ 1 air, moved, attacked Trenta @ El Adem. Trenta eliminated: 50th took 2 hits.

3)51st inf with Monty + an air unit moved and attacked 90th Light east of El Adem. 90th light destroyed: 51st took one hit!

4)7th armor moved and attacked Sabaratha to the south east of Acroma. 7th armor scored 2 hits and no damage.

5)Tobruck, Acroma, Gazala and the German Supply line are now threatened.

Note: Red cubes show location of attacks except I forgot the third red cube which should be on the Italian block south east of Acroma. The blue cubes define the German supply line.

GERMAN OCTOBER-1942
RP: 12! 3 Luftwaffe at Malta.
Elim Pool: 21 Pz, 90th Light, Trieste, x3 Italian inf.
Add Step: 2 RP to 51 Para, 1RP to 164th.

What a mess for the German, but there is some hope...

1) 15Pz with Rommel attacked the unit due east of Tobruck. It's a 2SP 50th inf. Rommel throw 6 dice and scored two hits! %1st returned fire and missed. The Brits left Bardia wide open- (this was typical Matt's goof of all goofs...Matt the goofus spaced.) 15 Pz rolls into Bardia now that is going to throw a serious wrench into the Brit time-table....

2)Littorio, 164th move, and link up with Ariete to attack, (I thought the unit was infantry but no it's the full strength) 7th Armor division. The German tosses 8 dice and scored 3 big hits! 7th armor rolls 4 dice and scored 2 hits.

3) The only unit that can occupy Tobruck was Sabratha at 1SP.

Now I know the Brits are in a Pickle or am I dreaming?
Can the Brits blow up Bardia, Tobruck and drive west?
I don't know... we shall see.

Note:
The block with yellow and red cubes is the battered 7th armor.
Red marks battle hexes.
Blue defines supply line.
