I'm in the middle of my first game, and have run into a couple questions:

1) Climate is on Freezing (body size 1-4 loses 2 population), and there is a climate event card called Cold Snap (body size 1-6 loses 5 population.)
My species has Burrowing, Defensive Herding, and Hibernation, each allowing me to prevent 1 population loss due to cold.
Do I resolve Cold Snap and Freezing separately, losing a total of 2 population for Cold Snap and 0 for Freezing, or do I resolve them cumulatively, losing 4 population?

2) Can my species with Hibernation ever go extinct? It ignores 2 unfed population. If I don't eat at all for a round, does my population drop to 2? Or do I go extinct because I never ate?

Thanks.

1) The cold snap completely replaces the normal effects of the Freezing climate. You lose 2 population because of the cold snap, and ignore any population loss that would normally occur during a freezing climate.

2) With hibernation, your population drops to 2 if you don't eat at all in a round. You can however go extinct due to climate effects, carnivores etc.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your game :-)

1) Resolve only the Cold Snap. Event card supersede the climate track.

2) It can not die to Starvation. You would drop your population cube to 2 if you ate nothing.

You can still die to Carnivores and Climate.

OK. Thanks for the quick response. So if there's a climate card, you resolve that and not the climate effect. That makes sense because they cancel each other out sometimes...

Loving the game, by the way. Very different from our standard Climate game. We went all the way down to an Ice Age, and all 3 players are just trying to keep our one or two species alive. Love how different the game is, and looking forward to future games that are vastly different due to the Climate. Cheers!

First there was Hearts, then there was Spades, and now we bring you Clubs. The suit of clubs finally gets some respect!

Only COLD SNAP and HEAT WAVE supersede the icons on the Climate Track. Every other event happens in addition to the icons on the Climate Track.
