SMG have 0 range, meaning half FF at 1 hex range. But full FF in their hex. The rules say that 'when being assaulted, for example'.

1st question: Is there another example?

2nd question (if the previous one's answer is 'no'): Shouldn't they benefit from assaulting someone? Here when resolving hand to hand, they have the same firepower as, say, militia or any other infantry. That just looks wrong.

Hi Marc,

Take in mind the range of an SMG is about 150m. maximum and with the scale of the game just can fire with full FF in hex range so the only situation the SMG can fire full FF is in Hand to Hand combat/assaults.
Try to assault a hex defending by a SMG unit......

Yes, if you go to the "Combat Strength" chart "Die roll modifiers" will notice:

"- Veterans/Engineers/SMG assaulting......... -1"
