I thought about writing a lengthy intro to this poll but decided to present it cold (as a corpse heh, heh) so as not to bias opinion. The reason it's RSPd is because there might be religious considerations (consecrated ground, manner of death, feet facing East etc.) involved. So without further ado....

Poll: What's the plan for your mortal remains?
What's your plan for your mortal remains?
Burial/entombment, open casket funeral.
Burial/entombment, closed casket funeral.
Green burial, no casket.
Cremation, "ashes" entombed.
Cremation, "ashes" scattered.
Cremation, "ashes" left with family.
Body donated to science.
Body frozen or some other method for later revival.
Other, I'll explain below. (Hopefully not too far below heh, heh.)

It is not the religious Jewish custom to use a casket. At most if anything a plain wooden box that specifically will decompose is used. That is unusual and discouraged. The body is normally interred naked wrapped only in a shroud which is typically a talit gadol that has lost its tzitzit.

I chose other because I don't have a strong preference. Funerals and the ceremonies surrounding them are for the benefit of the survivors. I've expressed some things I find nice sounding while I'm alive (for example, asking everyone who attends to take a scoop of ash and scatter it somewhere exotic or meaningful or one of those green burials where you fertilize a tree or something). Some of it will depend on how long I live and who outlives me. Mostly though, I want the people who survive me to do what makes them most comfortable with the process.

My paternal grandfather purchased a section in my hometown cemetary for any members of his line. There are 2 plots left. So I've got the land. I do want to be cremated and the ashes buried there. I think leaving my ashes to family with scattering instructions is a burden on them. I'm cremated and buried.

freezing your body pretty much makes it impossible to revive it later on with the same memories/personality

I checked "buried closed casket" but it could be any of four: "buried open casket", "buried closed casket", "donated to science with the stipulation that final remains be buried at a gravesite & not cremated", or "parts donated to science with remains buried at a gravesite".

As for the "parts donated to science" (presumably to help someone who needs a heart, liver or kidney), once it's planted in someone else it becomes their property, and I decline to try to stipulate how those will ultimately be disposed (!).

if youre old your organs arent that useful so usually "donated to science" means your body is going to a medical school for educational purposes

send me off to medical school... then cremate me... mix the ashes with clay/porcelain... pour me into chess piece molds... I'll be my own eternal army.

It's either that or a viking funeral.

Ashes placed into a long boat, burned on the shore line.
Drink and eat afterwards... let the sands of time forget me slowly

I've always wanted my unembalmed body to be unexpectedly shot out of a cannon and into the assorted mourners at the funeral.

I like to think that, in this way, I shall die how I lived.

The open-casket then burial part is a no-brainer for me. For me, it's the funeral that is tough. In LDS culture, service beforehand always seems... bland. Almost akin to a Sunday School lesson. I've been to too many that were less a celebration of the life we've lost than instruction on why we should be happy because we have hope for a better future. I do NOT want my death to bore people to tears.

So I really want a wake. But that kind of rampant individuality would be frowned on in most circles I travel. And besides... an alcohol-free wake? What's the point? I mean, who is going to suddenly scream at the top of their lungs what a great guy I am while they are stone sober?

I want the cheapest and simplest waste disposal available, whatever that might be.

Australia however won't permit you to cheaply and simply dispose of a body.
