Hello there,

We went through our two first playthrough of the 2nd edition and while doing the "escape from innsmouth" one, we had some roleplay problem with the hybrid deep ones attack behavior.
Indeed, it says most of the time "attack an investigator within range" and then proceeds to do a melee attack (like grabbing the skull of its victim to try to crush it). How can he attack someone at "range 3" (in an alley by example) but we can only attack him in hand to hand combat if we are on its tile ?
The scenario being so poor in firearms, we got a lot of trouble from those ones (at least, the maniacs and deep ones don't do that).

Does anyone else have trouble with that too ?

I always read that as "within melee range". But it actually makes more sense that it would be 3 spaces.

Hmm, We just ran this scenario as well and I seem to recall the actual attack descriptions being more range based when the hybrid was attacking from range. "Belches forth a a cloud of poison" or something to that effect. Maybe your app bugged out?

We lost the scenario (due to one of our investigators turning pyroman with instant win although we had toll the bell and were waiting for the boat, grrr...) so we'll try it again and I'll check if it keeps using melee attack at range. In our run, they were ALL melee attacks and we were fed up to get so many defense roll even while running for our lives with all those spawned monsters on our heels.

Incidentally, did you pay attention to the fact that the pyro needs 6 Rooms to be on fire, not just 6 Spaces?

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think there is another that attacks ALL investigators at range and the description is that he comes up behind you with a knife and restrains you.

What up with that?

Yes, the whole southwest of the map was on fire and we didn't try to put it down as it was culling all the spawn from the mob. We did put out the fire on the east side as it was in our way to reach the bell and we contained it to allow us another escape route through the secret passage in the hotel.
