played this game yesterday. Loved it, just had a few quick rules questions.

1: How do you determine which way to face the tile when drawing from the exploration deck. Can you just choose which way to face the entrance and exits?

2: Is a respite mandatory if there are no enemies in the chamber? We had a scenario where we took a respite, explored next turn, then there were no monsters spawned in that room. Does this count as a second respite in a row thus a random encounter? Or can the heroes choose to not have a respite and just not heal or search?

1. The rules say you just have to make one portal line up with your entrance portal. Pick whichever way you like.

2. It's mandatory.

Make sure you check out the FAQ. There are revised respite rules, as follows:

Page 16 – Respite Change the text in the first circle to read:

‘If there are no adversaries on the board at the start of this phase, there is a respite. Each player sets up their hero anywhere in the current chamber. Then, if they wish, the heroes can attempt to rest – if they do, each player rolls a dice. If at least one player rolls under the number of skills their hero has, there is an ambush (page 19), otherwise each player can either heal D3 wounds or search the room by rolling a dice, taking a treasure card if they roll a 4 or more.’

Very cool. That is a much better method than the "adding up to 9" method.

It definitely is.

It works so much better, and even with just a few skills each it makes resting risky. The other day, only one player had two skills, the rest had one each. That one player managed to roll a one, summoning a massive group of grots and also generating an event that managed to stun everyone on the board. It was a massive disaster and nearly wrecked us.
