The special attack rules state that you can only kill the ghost with the ring or if you are in the pentagram room. Assuming the ring isn't out yet, Does that mean you can attack the ghost wherever it is in the house or does the ghost have to be in the pentagram with you? So you would just wait in the pentagram chamber for several turns until the ghost gets there?

The players can continue to explore the House to find the Ring.

Yes, exploring the house to find the ring is an option and would provide one of the two methods for attacking the ghost. Having the ring would allow a hero to attack the ghost in any room in which the ghost was encountered. However, that doesn't answer the OP's question, which is, without the ring, can you attack the ghost "astrally" from the pentagram room regardless of where it is in the house OR must you wait in the pentagram room until the ghost makes its way there before you can attack it?

Under the main rules for "Make an Attack", it states the following:

"Once during your turn, you can attack an opponent in the same room.(An opponent is an explorer or monster that wants to stop your movement or interfere with you)."

Further down the page, rules are provided for "Distance Attacks" which allow you to attack an opponent in another room within your line of sight providing that the weapon or method of attack has this ability. However, no mention is made of the distance attack ability in either the Traitor's Tome or the Secrets of Survival handbook for this haunt.

Therefore, considering the basic rule for making an attack and in the absence of any clear statement in the haunt that would supersede this rule, I think it is logical to conclude that attacking the ghost from the pentagram room can only occur when the ghost is in the pentagram room with the hero making the attack.
