It is simpler but it indeed has the special powers of Small World and the elegant area control of El Grande.

I've never played El Grande, so I can't comment on that but I don't see too much Small World in Ethnos. There's no attacking, it's area majority, so it's more of a race. There are racial powers but they aren't two-part like in Small World.

I really can't think of any other game that's like it. Awesome game so far! Need more plays...
