A 13-15 player game with grouped chats, semipublic night-orders and unspecified numbers of specified roles.

(If you were at BGGCon this may look familiar, but no previous experience of the setup is needed.)

Roles

Guaranteed roles:
2 Evil Pack Wolves – common chat, may nightkill once per night.
1 Good Seer – see below for Seer role description.

Additionally there will be 2 – 4 Evil roles and 8 - 10 Good roles from the following:

Max
• Lone Wolf – once per game* may nightkill (standard Vigilante ability but reveals and is viewed as Wolf). *This once-per-game is refreshed each time any Wolf dies.
• Seer – each night may view for Max (Seer or Wolf) of the opposite alignment.
Aux
• Sorcerer – each night may view for viewing roles (Seer/Sorcerer) but receives no alignment information.
• Martyr – each night may target a player. If the target player would die that night due to a nightkill OR the following day at lynch, the Martyr will die and the target player will survive.
• Bodyguard – each night may target a player. If the target player would die that night due to a nightkill OR the following day at lynch, the Bodyguard will prevent the death, once. The Bodyguard is not notified when the protection ability has been used up.
• Parity Hunter – no action but counts +1 towards his side's parity total, and Hunter plurality breaks vote ties.
• Priest – Until the first Priest dies, there is full public role reveal (role and alignment) at each death. If all the start Priests are dead (and there was at least one start priest), only role (not alignment) is publicly revealed on death.
• Witch – each night may target a player. That player's night action will fail (though only a viewing role will know this has happened). Witch does not affect Hunter or Priest.
• Villager – no special ability.

Victory conditions:
Good victory – reduce the Evil side to zero parity (no Evil Wolves, no Evil Hunter(s))
Evil victory – Evil parity equals or exceeds village parity (Evil Wolves + Evil Hunter(s) >= Good Wolves + non-Wolves)

Chats

Wolfchat
Pack Wolves will have a private chatroom together, in which night orders should be submitted.

Suit chats
Every player will be assigned a suit (Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds or Spades) in addition to role and alignment. Each suit has a communal chatroom and all players submit a night order 'Target X' in their suit chatroom. Wolves, Villagers, Priests and Hunters may submit night orders in suit chatrooms but these will be without any in-game effect. For all roles except the Pack Wolves, orders submitted outside a suit chatroom will be disregarded.
Each Dawn the moderator will post results in the suit chats; each player submitting an order in the suit chat will receive 'Yes', 'No' or 'Fail'. Only for a viewing role (Seer/Sorcerer) will the feedback be meaningful, and for all other players the view will be random, most being 'No'.
One or more (maximum two) players may be 'Joker' and will have access to ALL the suit chatrooms. A Joker with an active power must choose on D1 in modchat which suit will be the one to count for actual night orders throughout the game, with the others being decoy rooms. A Pack Wolf cannot be a Joker though a Lone Wolf may be.

Court of Cards
All players have access to a chat called 'Court of Cards'.
Each Day (provisional orders also accepted during the Night) a player may submit an order in the Court of Cards to 'view roles'.
At Dusk, that player will be told in private Modchat two roles which still exist in the game (no alignment). Night posting is permitted, so the information may be distributed during the Night.
Multiple players will have the two roles drawn separately, after replacement.
A player who views roles will have no vote power that Day.

Game Start
On Night 0 each player will be admitted to their suit chat(s).
Each Seer/Sorcerer will be given a Night 0 negative view in modchat.

Clarifications
• If multiples of Martyr/Bodyguard target the same player who is targeted for a nightkill, ALL the protections are resolved; multiple Martyr deaths and Bodyguard power uses might occur simultaneously.
• If multiple kill attempts target the same recipient of a Martyr/Bodyguard's protection, ALL the kill attempts are diverted/thwarted, and any Lone Wolf kill powers would be considered exhausted until refreshed.
• Bodyguard and Martyr only affect a direct attack; neither a Bodyguard nor a Martyr can protect a Martyr from the effect of the Martyr power.
• Witch orders are resolved simultaneously so a Witch cannot block another Witch's power.
• For a Seer, the result 'Yes' means the target is a Seer/Wolf of the opposite alignment. 'No' means the target is either not a Seer/Wolf or is the same alignment as the Seer. 'Fail' means the Seer was targeted by a Witch.
• For a Sorcerer, the result 'Yes' means the target is a Seer/Sorcerer, 'No' means the target is neither Seer nor Sorcerer and 'Fail' means the Sorcerer was targeted by a Witch.
• For every other role, 'Yes', 'No', 'Fail' are random and give no indication of the player being targeted by a Witch. Most random results will be 'No'.
• If a player with the role Martyr or Bodyguard dies in the night, any protection from that player's night order may be effective that night but not for the following day's lynch.
• A Wolf can kill another Wolf. If a Lone Wolf nightkills another Wolf, the Lone Wolf ability is immediately refreshed.
• No player is obliged to put in a night order.
• A player may self-target and may target the same player on sequential nights.
• A Lone Wolf can put in a fake night order while he/she has a kill ability by self-targeting. Lone Wolves may not suicidally self-kill.
• If all remaining Wolves are Witch-blocked or choose not to kill, there will be no nightkill.
• The specific wording of the Hunter role means that in a final two, Evil Pack Wolf vs Good Hunter will result in a Good win during the day (Hunter breaks vote ties) but an Evil win during the night, because the nightkill would end the game and the Wolf would be presumed to kill. A Lone Wolf vs Hunter of opposite alignment would resolve depending on day/night and whether the Lone Wolf had a kill remaining.
• If a Martyr or Bodyguard should be targeted for a nightkill at the same time as their protection target is targeted for nightkill (multiple nightkills arising due to Lone Wolf activity) then the protection will be effective, in the absence of Witch blocking.
• If a Bodyguard's protection is used up in the night, the target player is no longer protected from lynch next day.
• If there is a tie for lynch then the first tie-break is the number of Hunters and then standard LHLV.
• If the final two players were a Good and Evil Lone Wolf where the Good Lone Wolf had a kill left and the Evil did not, Evil would win the game for having reached parity.
• Both Pack Wolf and Lone Wolf reveal on death as 'Wolf' with no qualifiers (with or without alignment, depending on Priest status).
• Even when the first Pack Wolf is killed, the remaining Pack Wolf retains the nightly kill, and does not convert to a Lone Wolf. No Lone Wolf can ever enter the Pack Wolf chat.
• If lynch is blocked by one or more bodyguards, there is no lynch (there is not a lynch roll-down mechanic in this game). If lynch is diverted by a martyr, the martyr's lynch will be announced.
• No death will be explicitly explained - for example, if a martyr dies at night no inference should be read from flavor text as to whether this was due to direct kill or the martyr's power. Lone Wolf kills and Pack Wolf kills will also be indistinguishable.
• If a Witch blocks a Lone Wolf nightkill, the kill ability is retained for a future night.
• Although night results are 'random' for non-seer/sorcerer roles, the mod retains the right to ensure that 'fail' is most often associated with players who were targeted by someone else (because otherwise a Joker could guarantee that the failed player could not be a viewing role).

The exact date for running this is yet to be determined, but is unlikely to be before January, due to work commitments. I'm listing the game now to generate sign-ups and rule queries/comments.

Speculatively, I'll say it should run in the second full week of January.

Lynch: 4pm
Night orders close: 5pm

Yeah, sort of, but with orders instead of votes. I'm happy to get to be on the player end. All of Javal's games are cool.

It was tradition now, to burn Alice.

It is the way of customs to warp and shift as time passes. Few now even remembered any stories of the original visit by that strange intruder from beyond the court. That there was once a visitor and that her name had been Alice was all that anyone recalled. And so, every time the seasons had turned, and the court celebrated the incoming year, an effigy was constructed, with loving care. A blocky maniquin was clothed in a blue smock dress and white pinafore, embroidered (garishly, one might say) with multicoloured hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs, hair arranged into a long golden heart descending in a tail down the back, bound to the tip with criss-crossing ribbons to produce further diamonds. Recent custom, arising from a misreading of the histories, had the face painted with whiskers and a rabbit's nose, so that the whole was both striking and yet disturbing.
After a pageant in which she would be carried through the court in a golden litter by the youthful twos and threes, the Alice would progress to the great gardens, now lined in the modern style by small fountains interspersed with alabaster statues, croquet no longer being in fashion. At the far end of the garden, beyond the the Arbor Duchesa, the Alice would be gently lowered and borne to the top of a pyramid of cedar and cherry wood branches. The bonfire lit, the court would celebrate through the night the passing to a New Year, with a great feast, music and dancing.

But, alas, not this year.

It was the young Queen of Diamonds who found her; it was the turn of the Diamonds to finish dressing the Alice, and accordingly she had came on New Year's Eve to mark up the face and complete the ornamentation of the dress. The Queen's scream brought the nines and tens running to her side, and (after reviving the fainting royal) they gazed in horrified confusion at the ruins of the Alice. The pinafore, hair and face had been slashed as though in a frenzy by some blade-wielding madcard. The fury of the attack appeared random until one inspected more closely and saw that every cut defaced one or more suit symbols, so that not a single heart, club, diamond or spade remained intact upon the Alice.

It seemed that there was a new intruder, perhaps several, in the court of cards. The Alice was the first victim – a statement of intent, perhaps, or a formal challenge.

The Ace of Clubs was commanded by the High King to don a costume not seen in many years – not since the visit of the original Alice, in fact, though the title had been retained ceremonially. Once again, the Executioner would wield his axe.

And heads would roll.

Hooray – all players are now checked in.
I shall shortly send out roles and open the all-player Court of Cards chat, then declare Day 1. First lynch will be Monday 4pm BGG. Seers and Sorcerers get (private) N0 negative views.

Please familiarize yourselves with the rules – most roles are pretty standard but note that there are some important differences. In particular please check the Hunter rules and note that Good Victory requires eliminating all Evil Wolves and Evil Hunters.

A couple of other gameplay notes:
Remember that you can check for roles still in the game by posting
view roles in the Court chat. You will learn two living roles at Dusk (still alive after lynch) in private chat. This will cost you your vote for the day – and all players will know that your vote does not count.

Finally - visible orders will make life difficult for active specials to hide. If you do not have an active ability, please give careful consideration to what orders you place – no order, self-targeting, targeting another player either within your suit or outside. If you don't put in orders, you may be helping the pack find the specials such as seer, martyr, bodyguard or sorcerer. Even if your order doesn't count it probably still matters!

The Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally System

Your Moderator has enabled the Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally system
for this game. In order for it to function correctly, your votes will
need to be formatted correctly. The following rules will explain what
you will need to do:

Players
1. All votes must be bolded

2. The entire vote statement must be bolded and enclosed in brackets:
[vote jmilum]

3. If your game allows, and you [vote nightfall] your vote will
be locked. Your moderator may have disabled nightfall votes.

4. Vote tallies will be automatically posted to the game thread
regularly if the tally has changed. The Tally and Vote Logs (for each
game day) are also available on the Cassandra game page.

5. If your vote is not counted be sure to check the Vote Log page and
see if it was marked invalid and why.

6. Case does not matter and simple typos will not cause the vote to fail.

7. You may [vote no lynch] if your game allows it.

8. Non voting players will be listed in the tallies. This will only be
correct if the Moderator notes which players have been killed (see below)

9. Editing a vote post will invalidate the vote and it will not be counted.

Moderators
1. The moderator will need to post [Dawn] when the day begins
(after the night results are posted) and [Dusk] when the lynch
deadline has passed and the day is over. Votes will not be counted
after [Dusk] has been posted. They will be registered again
after [Dawn] is next posted.

2. You may include a day number in the dawn and dusk post for
informational purposes, but it will not be used by the system.
Cassandra will increment an internal counter each time it sees
[Dawn] no matter what day is shown in a dawn post (i.e.
[Dawn 3] the three is allowed but ignored)

3. After dusk has been posted, the Moderator may go to the game page
on Cassandra to request a Final Tally to be posted before the normal
scan period has elapsed (i.e. Game Y gets scanned at 45 min. after the
hour, if it lynches at 7pm the moderator may request a tally to be
posted from the game page before 7:45pm. it will also be posted
regardless of whether or not it has been changed since the last
posting) - Do this by clicking on the 'Force Vote Tally' link.

4. You will need to note which players were killed via the lynch or at night by
either posting [killed jmilum] in the thread, or by going to the game
page and editing the player list. When posting in the thread, be sure to post
[dusk] before posting the lynch kill, and post [dawn] before
posting the night kill.
Example:
A. lynch time has passed so post [dusk]
B. goto the game page and select a final tally to be posted
C. check the final tally and post [killed melsana]
D. after the night deadline has passed post [dawn]
E. post the night kill with [killed kima]

Your Moderator has chosen to use the Longest Held Last Vote method for a tiebreaker - This is just for Cassandra system, and there may be a different tiebreaker specified by your Moderator in the ruleset.
Your Moderator has chosen to allow Nightfall votes.
Your Moderator has chosen to allow No Lynch votes.
