They tend to roll more dice and can be used to increase difficulty.

They are similar to other enemy units (but you are free to invent your own rules of course, that would be nice!).

Not really. Or do you know of any other recent WW2 themed board games that sport swastikas or SS insignia?

We removed the SS runes because they are forbiden in Germany (and we have many German backers). Sorry about that.

My understanding is if there are Nazi symbols, they would not be able to sell in some countries.

This happens in the USA also. Several years ago 21st Century Toys had a very nice line of 12" dolls and uniforms. Some were exclusive to Toys-R-Us or KB Toys. Until someone complained about the Waffen SS MG Gunner. So Toys-r-us pulled them and 21st Century redesigned the boxes to say Elite German Soldier.

Although to be clear, there is a big difference between codified German law and a few kvetching American busybodies. Although if I were a game-designer I would probably avoid controversy & just go with the Iron Cross or something.

It gets weird with some games, like Sergeants Miniatures Game (from Lost Battalion Games) who went with the Weimar Republic flag for Nazi troops, which is historically quite wrong (the tricolour was used by groups expressly opposed to Nazism and Communism.)

Definitely. Even very recently Black Orchestra was released. But it's true that Germans were unable to pre-order it directly because of it.

Good game by the way, incredibly thematic and smart design.

I believe the "SS" troops are on the non-KS sheet 02 on the lower right.

I just got my shipment and I am sad. Not because the flags and symbols of WW2 are nowhere in sight, but also because the replacement design is just.
Bland.

There is no 'red' color on regular Wehrmacht troops either, it's all been removed. Everything is black and white.

In fact, SS being entirely black is actually confusing, as there are other black tokens that have nothing to do with SS.

Swastika colors could still have been used, but sadly it's just.. Meh :/

I'm sure the game is good, but this took a notable amount of character and theme away - especially with everyone else having flags.
