We have played this game a few times with 4 players (no teams), and we must be playing it wrong...

Once a player has 3 or 4 monsters on the board, that player becomes marked, as all the others must gang up on that player to prevent him/her from summoning 2 monsters and win.

We wondered because, after the 2nd turn, it became just a series of "attack player with 3-4 monsters on the board", like a mexican stand-off.

Hi,

A couple of things to be checked before we go deeper into your issue.
1. make sure you used the right number of tiles. A 4 player game is larger than a 2 player game and that makes a difference (See p. 4 of the rulebook)
2. When a player summon a new monster, make sure that the monster only attack ONE monster, and NOT ALL the monster around it. (See p. 11 of the rulebook)

Then, you have to be a good talker and create alliance during the game, because that makes the difference! Try to find some good reasons to make the players focus on monsters that are not yours!
