The amazing Scott Hockley is responsible for the cracked statue paint job on all the minis shown in the Kingdom Death 1.5 Kickstarter. https://www.facebook.com/theblackhandsblog/photos/pcb.158119...

It's a subtle palette, and a few people have posted saying they like the cracked appearance of the sculpts. Fair warning: Your minis will not look like that out of the box. Once you assemble them, they will look more or less like the female survivor and phoenix shown in the first photo on the Kickstarter page. The cracks and shading shown in the later photos were added by a highly skilled miniature painter.

Most KD veterans will know this instantly, but the Kickstarter will be drawing in a lot of folks new to building minis, and it's worth mentioning for their sakes.

Thank you for this. I was curious if the models had been slightly updated and they just used a wash to bring out the details.

This is very important, and I really hope Poots makes this crystal clear on the Kickstarter page. It would be a shame if new backers felt disappointed when it arrives without the paint job, as that would detract from how awesome this game is.

Thanks for posting this here. I have the game already, and had to do a double take when I first saw the KS page! Haha.

Ironically, at this point plain white minis for KDM actually look pretty good. Imagine trying to do that with a W40k or Shadows of Brimstone force.

They look good, but I'm surprised that Poots is using those to show off the minis without saying anything about the painter. Even just a blurb that those are painted minis and actual minis come unpainted would be something. I wasn't even sure at first if he had updated the sculpts on those to add in the cracked look. For people that don't know any better, he could get a bunch of complaints when the unassembled, unpainted minis actually come in for those people.

btw, This is true for all KS, including CMON. These professional paintjobs can cost about $200 for a miniature. There's actually some disagreement among miniature collectors how to best show off a miniature. Unpainted, frex, may not show details because of the color of the plastic, which would irrelevant for a miniatures game.

BTW, If you are new to painting, pick up the two Reaper Learn to Paint Kits, either on FRPGames for the discount, or the Reaper site in December for their promotion. Reaper TODAY has a BF sale on its MSP set: http://www.reapermini.com/

They look like they're basically primed and washed. Love the cracked bases though.
