He's been around since the plague. Inquiring minds want to know: Just how gleeful/sad will RSP be?

Is this worse than a president Trump?

Are the drunken lawyer and the fake lawyer from Canada already in a stupor with sorrow?

He brought the world - for you guys the world is America. Your world is not that big. - at the brink of total nuclear destruction. And according to documentary Fog of War he was willing to go beyond that.

I think the right honorable president Donald Trump can top that. And he isn't dead yet. He is still not president yet. Besides he didn't keep every promise he made during the elections. So there is hope.

Wait and see ... till a flash and a firestorm comes.

If I see images of Detroit I see poor, black, destitude, broken people with sad dreary faces and no sun and no cars.
If I see images of Havana I see poor, black, destitude, broken people with sad dreary faces. However the sun shines and they drive in the cars that were once made in Detroit.

Dumb fucking progressive morons. Detroit vis a vis Cuba? Idiot. You can leave Detroit anytime you want you stupid fuckstick. What kind of shitty fucking schools do you useless Europeans have? No sun in Detroit? Only black dreary faces just like Cuba? I elect you the most stupid person who ever posted in RSP. Truly epic levels of shitty stupidity. No wonder Germany rolled over your pansy ass countries like a hot knife through butter, you people are devolution personified.

Anyway, I think in order to get a read on the significance and American public's take on the death of a murderous, slaughtering monster of a dictator who still, even in death, burdens that nation, we ought to ask Colin Kaepernick. He wore the t-shirt after all, and defended Castro just like the dumb fuck and incompetent quarterback he is. I just wish Castro had died of something awful, agonizing and slow 40 years ago - he ruined a few hundred thousand lives and just wrecked 4 generations of families.

Detroit, no sun? I'd laugh except you're such a clueless cunt you probably actually believe that.

Question everything.
mbmbmbmbmb
The question, as always, is what is the most likely path that will lead to freedom for the Cuban people? Should we follow the path the conservatives want? Should we continue to cut off Cuba from all trade and refuse to have diplomatic relations with them except at the point of a gun? Or is the liberal path of trying to normalize relations via free trade and reopening the US embassy more likely to achieve the result that we all want?

No tears being shed for Fidel Castro here. Whatever his initial rhetoric, his ended up being a shitty regime that mistreated the Cuban people for generations.

Though I despise Castro's regime, US policy towards Cuba was a hysterical and absurd over-reaction (by both major US parties, FWIW). The Cuban regime has NEVER posed the slightest threat to the US, and the embargo lasted at least 40 years too long.

We should continue to normalize relations with Cuba. Actually, the death of Fidel will probably make that easier. He was grumbling against Raoul's policies, and his death might make opposition to normalization in the US diminish, too.

Pretending to be angry used to be his shtick. But he stopped pretending a few years back. His posts matter less than quotes of his posts to me now.

----
On castro. If the U.S. hadn't been so dickish, there would have been no castro to begin with. We created the conditions that demanded a "castro". But we were ignorant. The 50 years of idiocy since then had little to do with ignorance. The embargo should have been ended in the 70s and Cuba would have been considerably more democratic by now.

Castro is really complex and simply saying "he was a brutal dictator" kind of misses the point, because, yeah, he was a brutal repressive dictator, but he was a fiercely populist brutal repressive dictator - Cuba's been mismanaged for the best part of 25 years at this point and still manages to be reasonably high on the UN's human development index (right now it's 67th, which puts it close to the top of the second-highest category, ahead of a few European nations and basically every Latin/South American country other than Chile and Argentina) and that's not nothing because daily quality of life does matter quite a bit. People living in most dictatorships suffer because the dictatorship becomes a kleptocracy - certainly this is what happened under Batista - but in Cuba that tendency has been comparatively muted (if not eliminated). The net result of the Castro regime was to replace a brutal repressive dictator who didn't give a shit about the average Cuban with a brutal repressive dictator who did.

This isn't to say that Cuba wouldn't be better off with a truly democratic government and stronger private property rights. It probably would. But there are plenty of Latin American countries with ostensibly democratic governments and stronger private property rights where the average person is a lot worse off than your average Cuban, because democracy and property rights don't protect against corruption, grift and oligarchy.

A lot of people admire Castro for standing off the United States. Hell, even I think that's an admirable characteristic if you happen to be a Cuban communist. Other than that, though, there really wasn't much reason to admire the man. He was a dictator with all the typical characteristics of a dictator: one-man/one-party rule, political repression, press censorship, fear, economic stagnation, and the country turned into one large jail cell.

"economic stagnation" - lots of things you can blame him for but that one largely falls on the United States. He wasn't a communist but in fact was a nationalist, However your trade embargo to protect Big Fruit corps and corrupt mafia casino\hotel owners drove him to the Russians in the cold war. The enemy of my enemy and all that.

Convient to mention the nukes the russians put on your borders but not the ones that Kennedy lied about whem he denied where placed on the soviets borders.

Yeah, Frank, you seem to forget that he (and his Soviet masters) had nuclear missiles pointed directly at us, 90 miles away.

But then again, you seem to be uncaring of history.

Thank God that JFK and our advisors kept us from destroying the world (along with some cooler heads in Moscow).

Tell me, who has more nuclear weapons pointed at the world, Cuba or America? Who has launched more nukes at the world, Cuba or America? Who sends more doctors and nurses into the world, Cuba or America? Perhaps you are the one who is uncaring of history.

Uh, I was referring to 1962.

Here Frank:

The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis, the Caribbean Crisis, or the Missile Scare, was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Period: October 14, 1962 – October 28, 1962

Pro-Tip: There's even a nice, easy boardgame that covers the topic.

13 Days: The Cuban Missile Crisis

And I am referring to history.
