So Christmas is coming and yes, I've ordered about 12 games for everyone in the family. It made me think about what ones I still have that are still in the shrink wrap from last year. Not because I don't want to play them, but mainly because of lack of people/time, etc. So . . . here is my list. What's yours??

Coup
The Resistance
Innovation
Eldritch Horror
Castles of Burgundy
Hanabi
Dominion Prosperity
7 Wonders - Leaders Expansion

I guess while we're at it, from this list, which one should be the next game to break out of the shrink wrap?

If you've got the time, I recommend Eldritch Horror. It is probably the longest game on your list though, especially for the first play.

Castles of Burgundy is the only one on that list that I would be interested in, personally. When I picked it up at the store my wife nixed it due to it's look.

Anyways, my unplayed list is:
Struggle for the Galactic Empire
Merrill's Marauders
Fresco
Sunrise City
Dark Minions
Pixel Tactics 2

I also have a few games that I've only played once solo to learn and haven't had opponents yet, or maybe only gotten to the table one time.

I would say the last 3 seems to be the easiest to bring to the table.
As I don't enjoy Hanabi (even if I recognize its merit) I would push the last 2.

I've been working on my unplayed list, so it is not so bad now.

Navajo Wars
D-Day at Omaha Beach
Modern Art
China
Spyrium
Fields of Arle
Arctic Scavengers
Conflict of Heroes
Eldritch Horror
Shadowrun Crossfire

You definitely should break out Castles of Burgundy. Gameplay is not too long and the rules are simple. Most important of all, it's a fantastic game.

I looked at my collection. Ignoring things that are on the trade pile, I've logged plays of most things. Most of the others I have played, but it was back before I started logging plays.

That leaves Hare & Tortoise and Stonehenge as the two things which I want enough that they aren't on my trade list but which I've never played. I could fix that easily enough...

I had Arctic Scavengers on the Christmas list this year, but went with some other games instead. I really like the sound of it, though. I think that would be my next play from your list, although, granted, I haven't heard of most of the other games.

Patchwork (2014)

This needs to be remedied. Patchwork is awesome.

As for me, my list has gotten pretty short over the past year now that I'm playing on a regular basis:

Welcome to the Dungeon (Actually started playing it a week ago but we were interrupted and had to stop before we could begin.)

Kill Shakespeare (I don't know if I will ever play this.)

Small World (Should be able to get this played soon.)

Power Grid (Soon, soon, soon...)

Broom Service (I have no idea why I ever bought this one.)

I have not played my own copy of wallenstein, but have played the game itself.

I have only played dungeon lords by the unofficial solo rules, so doesnt REALLY count as played.

Holy crap, dude. So are you in jail? On some wee island in the South Pacific with good internet service? You've certainly got your work cut out for you - and as a relative newb, I'd shudder at how many different games you HAVE played!

Isle of Trains - just received in an October math trade
Triumvirate - ditto

Minerva - bought in Tokyo in October as a souvenir of my trip
Yokohama - ditto

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game - my friend saw it on the shelf in a games store and said it looked good. I told her I'd look for it in a math trade and did get it. I knew nothing about it. I'm not sure I'll be interested in a CCG. It might not get played.

Money! - came as a sweetener in a math trade, but needs more than 2 players, so it's still in shrink waiting for another trading or selling opportunity.

Mmmmmm, more than a few! I'll just talk about some I am particularly looking forward to playing.

I've been particularly busy at work and had some illness lately so amazingly, The Gallerist and Vinhos Deluxe have not been played just yet. Those will definitely happen in the next month bar a disaster, as I am pumped up for those, given that Kanban, also by the designer Vital Lacerda is my top game and CO2 also rates as a 10/10 score for me (though is just outside my top ten).

I recently just got Merchants & Marauders and the Seas of Glory expansion for my birthday. This was one of two games I regretted not buying a while back, as the expansion soon went out of print. It is back in print, wohoo! Loved the Sid Meier's Pirates video game, the expansion is said to take the base closer to this much loved classic video game. And what super excites me about it is that I recently played Clash of Cultures, by one of the designers who worked on Merchants. Clash has really impressed me, it does a good job in my book of capturing some of the things I loved about the video game Sid Meier's Civilization.

And for my birthday I also got Halo: Fleet Battles - The Fall of Reach. Super excited about this one too. Space combat minis to play with my son, a lot of stuff in the core box and I love the look of the spaceships. There is hardly any talk of this game on BGG despite the Halo licence. I guess minus points are that some basic assembly is required, the maker is less well known on BGG than the likes of FFG, the models are unpainted and there is the complication for some people of finding others locally to play the game with.

And maybe it's just not coming onto people's radar. That is a pretty good looking starter set, I paid £53 inc delivery for my mine.

Archiepelago
I was on the fence but the review by No Pun Included swayed me. Pretty looking game too.

Argent: The Consortium
Although I am not a fan of anime or manga, I really like the art in BattleCon. However, my wife suggested I had enough BattleCon stuff already and she is probably right, so I figured, get more of that style of art as a different game.

Battalia
Deck building, area control and tile-laying combined? Sounds interesting and the art is decent I think and it has some fun minis too. I spotted it on sale at half price and I had already considered it strongly at full price, so that was an auto-buy. I wonder if this is off the radar for most folks? I don't think many of the main reviewers have covered it, despite the game being on a healthy BGG score and being a good production.

Brass
I wanted to try a Martin Wallace game. It kind of bugs me that we don't have one of his train games but then my wife does not seem that drawn to train games. I guess if my wife enjoys this one, she might consider another Wallace title. We do also have Mythotopia to try - no trains, alas - which was on a sale at a low price.

Chicago Express
This was such a cheap buy and I am hopefully looking forward to a thinky, low-luck game that doesn't take too long to play that plays well at two. If memory serves, it has paper money, which I am not a fan of, but if it's a good game, it's a good game.

The Colonists
This was a present I gave to my wife. She is so hard to buy a game for and I hope I hit the bullseye with this one. There are a bunch of games I think she would like but has ruled out that I couldn't buy, like Terra Mystica, Eclipse and Terraforming Mars, which she objects to for some (probably sensible) reason or other. Like with the Mars game, she wants only one on Mars and as far as we know, Vital Lacerda, our favourite designer, will be taking a trip of his own to the red planet.

Anyway, I have confidence The Colonists will be one of her favourite games, many aspects of it are things she likes. The only negative being it's a bit long to play the full game. However, Rahdo showed a fairly do-able way to "save" the game state and you can play shorter versions.

El Grande
I've heard so many good things about this area control game.

Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage
This gets my vote for one of the most exciting Hot Deals threads I have seen. An out of print, highly rated war game, for about £25 I think. I guess that is because a new version is coming, from Phalanx. I just wanted to secure it and it looks a good production to me, regardless of whether Phalanx knocks it out of the park. A bird in the hand, I figured.

Mage Knight
Not one my wife is interested in. She hates the theme, and game length is a bit long. But they say it is a great solo game, and I added this with a bunch of other games my wife would generally frown at as I felt I had some gaps in my collection in these departments!

Merkator
We love most games by Uwe Rosenberg. Enough said.

Mombasa
We've played the much lighter games by Alexander Pfister, Oh My Goods and Port Royal, and really enjoy them. We like deeper games too. So I am hoping this will be a slam dunk. I have read many good things about it.

Nations
My only worry here is, will it compete for the same space with Through the Ages? When I got it, it was bearing in mind the older Through the Ages. , which has since been streamlined somewhat. Hopefully it will prove worthwhile having both. But boy do I love Clash of Cultures, these two will do well to be held in similar affection in my heart.

Pax Porfiriana
I like war-themed games and I sometimes like learning a little something when playing a game. I know nothing at all about the history this game covers, so I am looking forward to hopefully losing myself in something new!

Ra
I just want to see how much I enjoy this classic, having played a few Knizia games which I enjoyed.

Shakespeare
This game just looks fun to play to me. Put on a play for the Queen in a London theatre? Why not!

Stockpile
I am intrigued by this game. It doesn't look like the type of game I love, but it is getting a lot of praise from folks saying similar things.

Suburbia
I really like Ted Alspach's The Castles of Mad King Ludwig. I was less enthused with the city builder Quadropolis (not by Ted) - I like it, but I don't love it depsite some folks saying it is one of the best city builders. I am hoping Suburbia will be more up more street.

Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization
I am very interested to see how this ranks for me, because I had a ton of fun playing Clash of Cultures. Clash may well break into my top ten, I am thinking already about whether to put it in, but I love everything in my top ten that it pains me to kick something out. Memoir '44 can't go as that has sentimental value and is nailed on for top ten always.

I feel Clash has set a high bar yet Through the Ages is so highly rated. Maybe they will prove too different to be directly comparable. e.g. I find the Clash minis fun, which is not an aspect of Through the Ages.

A Feast for Odin should be turning up soon. And the elves tell me Forbidden Stars may show up when it snows on Christmas Day (in my dreams at least).

Really just so much to play already. The latter part of this year has for me hopefully been about finalising my collection for years to come. I'll be joining the not buying any games in 2017 challenge/thread. Wish me luck!

Cheers,

John
